seems the fox show King of the Hill is talking about so-called 'zero tolerance' policies at schools. in the show hank hill's son brings tools to school for shop class and gets suspended, then his father gets suspended for telling the kids to do so. their policy was "anything that can be used as a weapon, IS a weapon". anyway, glad to see stupid rules like this are now being lampooned. oh well ...

King of the Hill, created by Beavis and Butthead creator Mike Judge, actually has a pretty good sense of humor and an even hand when it comes to potentially controversial issues. The rerun you mentioned is one good example. There's another episode where Hank and his son Bobby bond over responsible target shooting, which is represented as a positive thing.

More recently, they did an episode that spoofed the somewhat nuttier members of a gun club, but in an extremely gentle way. While one character was represented as a criminal and a nutjob (and of course the Dale character is always a paranoid loon, but in a silly way), the members in general were portrayed as law-abiding and good-natured.

One nice touch: Dale, distraught over the accidental discharge that may cost him the presidency of the gun club, takes off all his weaponry. He's toting a ton of it, of course -- including a neck knife! That's got to be the first neck knife I've seen portrayed in an animated series.

A few of the gun club guys had pocket clips showing. That is totally cool for a cartoon to have knives! Dale was also sporting some neat blades in a past episode where I think he was trying to get a raccoon out from under a house. Hank also used a multi tool to save some country star a while back. Good show.

Sorry, Boomhauer's my favorite character next to Dale. The latter works in a very loud factory producing barb wire.

Dark Nemesis, is your sig line from Buffy the Vampire Slayer?

One of the writers for the show has a fairly substantial collection of custom knives.

Nice to see he is having some influence on his fellow writers.

That's great.
Hey Les, what other notables are knife heads? (without naming names of course! ) I'm sure you've procured blades for the rich & famous...;)

I met that guy but can't remember his name...

At the Oregon Knife show last year, I went to dinner with some of the gang...

Sitting between Ken Onion and Rob Simonich was a guy introduced to me as a writer for King of the Hill...

A certified knife nut as far as I could tell :)

Good to see using knives on TV, even if it's just a cartoon...

totally OT, hey Michael, the featherweight wharncliffe i got from you a while back still KICKS TOTAL ASS!! i just love this thing. wish i could carry it with me more often, but as an attorney, i go to court all the time, and ... well ... you know ... they 'frown' on knives :(

Speaking of knives on TV, I was up late the other night and watched an episode of "Sheena", Supermodel of the Jungle or some such thing...

You would expect her to carry a knife, living in the wilds of Africa...or was that Florida...?

And sure enough she carries a boot knife...made of wood...

A warm and fuzzy knife?

Cuts rope like a charm too ;) If I can believe what I see on TV...

I wonder what Cliff would say about it's edge retention and abrasion resistance...I'm sure it's easy to sharpen...:D

I am sure that after close inspection you will see that her knife is "Made out of Hollywood".
