Which one of these three would you choose and why? Also opinions on Elmax steel vs. S35VN. Thanks.

You will get more replies if you put your post in the correct subforum. General would work fine...

Traditional is for, traditional style knives. I'm sure a Mod will move it to the correct place shortly

I own the 0560 and Socom Elite, not the Select Fire. Out of those two, I'd take the Socom Elite. Both are excellent knives, but I just like the Microtech better. It's relatively lightweight for it's size, super smooth and the blade shape is lovely. In my experience, Microtech knows how to heat treat S35VN and I like it better than the ELMAX on my 0560 (which works very well). The Socom Elite also fits most of my pockets better.

If you're into flippers and framelocks, though, the 0560 will be more fun than the Socom Elite for you.

I have all three also and my choice is also Socom Elite due to its light weight. If you don't mind extra weight and like flippers I suggest MicroTech DOC as well which can be had in various colors and current ones run in S30V.

I own the 0561 and the Socom Elite. I agree with everything that Franciscomv says. The one thing that I do not like about the Socom Elite is that it is tip down carry only, when all of my other higher end folders are tip up carry, which I prefer. I fear that if I am carrying the Socom and have a need for a fast deployment of the knife, my muscle memory will not be developed enough for quick deployment. This may only be a problem because of this unique situation to me. If the Socom is carried exclusively and daily, then I have no problem with tip down carry. This just does not represent my rotations of knives. I will also add that the Socom will likely hold its value much better than the ZT, and will fetch you more resale dollars as a function of price paid in the future. Each are serialized, and the Socom Elite is no longer made, and will likely bring a good price in the secondary market. I know Microtech has a less than stellar reputation regarding ethics etc., but their quality, fit and finish far exceeds any ZT I have ever owned. I have only owned a few, bit I do stand by my statement based on my experience.

Not really a fan of select fire. Of the socom and the 0560 I would take the 0560 only because I always default to a bearing flipper. Now if you were talking apples to apples and had a whaleshark, doc or other MT flipper it would probably be what I would choose. All the politics of the maker aside M/T makes a knife that is hard to beat quality wise.

Everyone has different likes, but I just sold off all my 0560's, even the S110v ones, I just like slicers better!!

I'm not a big fan of Alum. handles, but I like the feel of the select fire over the elite. S35 over Elmax for me, my elmax blades were not good slicers, but it was blade design(thick burley blade on the 0560s), vs steel properties.

My fav MT is the SOCOM Delta with a clip point, G10 handle, light weight for a 4 inch blade, and it cuts really well for me.

YES, I do wish the Select fire was a flipper!!! I had a nice Whale shark flipper, but the handle didn't fit my hand, and I sold it :( DOC, maybe in my future, MT makes some good ones.

Good luck in your search, hard to go wrong with your choices.
