Has anyone here been using these to store knives?

One reason for the question: Might the emitted vapors inside the bag have some unintended bad consequences for any non-iron portions of the knife?

Thanks Folks!

I have just started collecting folders and I have this same question. I was thinking of storing one knife per small Zerust poly bag, but I am concerned what it may do to scale materials. I found info saying it will not harm wood, but no discussion about other materials. The Burgh posted a long time ago with no response. Maybe there are more of you using VCI bags now.

FWIW I have used VCI paper to store woodworking planes & chisels for years at a time. The vapor didn't bother the wooden totes & knobs at all, some of which had complete varnish coverage and others with plenty of exposed wood.

I can't speak to the specific brand of bags you ask about because I've never used them. You could use/get a cheap knife with the same type handle material you're concerned about to test the bags as proof of concept for the bag's usage in your situation.

I think you'll be ok. They make the same bags for firearms that come in wood and plastic stocks of all kinds, use the same treatment for some toolboxes and tackle boxes that hold all manner of materials. I've used the pucks under black trash bags to keep a lathe and bandsaw from rusting outside. Not quite the same but the belt on the lathe was fine, as were the rubber tires on the bandsaw.
