Zing liner lock issues

Hi there everybody!

I got me an orange Zing just recently and noticed that it wouldn't keep it's blade locked open no matter what. I could tap the spine with my fingers or hit the edge of my table lightly or even bend it shut with my hands. So needless to say I sent it back for a replacement. Have you other Zing owners had this same issue? Will the replacement be OK? Am a bit worried. Otherwise the knife was tip-top.

Cheers,
Henri

I've got 2, and the only issue I had was am off centered closed blade that I fixed by adjusting the pivot screw.

I just recently took one along as my only knife on a 9 day trip, which included a cruise. I've come to realize that if out was the only knife I had I'd be ok, but whats the fun in that.

I've got one (tanto version), with no lockup problems. Blade centering is not perfect, but not rubbing on the liner at all either. I just haven't gotten around to adjusting it yet. Probably only about 10% off-center... That's probably why I haven't gotten around to adjusting it yet...

We've got three, two orange and one black, no lock issues. All three are solid.

The three that I've owned have all been perfect. Kershaw will fix yours up right away! The knife probably self-adjusted during shipment.

My Zing was perfect right out of the box--it's easily my favourite Kershaw to date. I'm sure the good folks at Kershaw will take excellent care of you.

Cheers everybody!

I had a chat with the dealer on the phone today, and we agreed that the lock was faulty. He sounded pretty surprised on the phone when he tested the light spine whack during the discussion. It was that loose. We agreed that I'm sent a black handled one that has been pre-tested. Sounds good to me. Sorry it wasn't the orange handled model...

Got my new (black) Zing in the mail today. Lockup is right on this one, though it won't flip open readily. Do I have to work it in or do I have to loosen the pivot?

Thanks for the replies, guys!

Dab some oil in the pivot and try adjusting the pivot screw slightly. :)

Hey thanks for the tip! I got it just right! Put some WD-40 and loosened the pivot 1/16th a turn and now it flips just fine with acceptable blade play. Loving this =).

Tighten the play back out, it should flip well without any play. You may need to work on the technique a bit. :D
Pre-load with a little forward pressure, then snap down and back.

Hi H: Sorry you had a problem, but glad to hear you got it resolved. Kershaw does a great job of adjusting the knives as they are built, but depending on your technique and whether the knife is broken in or not, sometimes a small adjustment is helpful. After you have opened the knife repeatedly, and the flipping technique is more natural to you, you will probably be able to dial the pivot a little tighter. WD-40, applied aparingly, is a good idea-
