I just learned that I'll be in Las Vegas for business in October and I'm contemplating a quickly planned side trip to Zion. My initial thoughts are to
do an overnight trip on the West Rim trail starting at Lava Point. However, since no cars are allowed and I will be by myself it looks like private shuttles are the only option.

Can anyone advise me on the best way plan transportation, and/or advice about the West Rim Trail? Are the campsites there hammock friendly? Any advice is appreciated as I am hastily trying to piece together my travel plans.

I can't recall the location of the West Rim Trail, but the main part of the park offers free bus rides up and down the length of the park all day long.

There were a decent number of trees there from what I recall and there's a good deal of water in such an arid part of the country. Enjoy yourself!

Have you considered Bryce canyon? It blows Zion away, tho camping is easier to arrange in Zion, as its not as desirable (IMHO).

With the lead time you've got, and it being off-season, you should be able to arrange a BC campout.

If you do BC, take the pack trip through the canyon. It's the best way to see it.

Just some thoughts, either way you'll have a blast.

I worked at Bryce Canyon for a couple summers. It was the best job I ever had.

Around 11 some of us would do some moonlight hikes down the canyon.
If you have a chance you need to go there to.
It's beautiful.

There's really nothing like it on earth

the west rim trail ends near kolob terrace road if im correct....i believe there are 9 primitive campsites along the way. some can be reserved. you will need a permit whch i suggest you get ahead of time, it took me 2hours to get mine. i dont believe there are any shuttles from kolob canyon to the entrance of zion.

i was supposed to do the west rim trail but family emergency came up. i would suggest calling some local guides....im sure theyd pick you up and help you out.
