Zip tie mod not working

So after much procrastination I finally picked up a torx bit set that included the T6 bit for changing the pocket clip location on my Tenacious. Then I did the zip tie mod, making sure to leave plenty of tab left before cutting it. But when I draw it out, it only deploys about half the time.

Is there some secret that I'm not aware of? Some special way of drawing a zip tied knife to make the blade flip open like it's supposed to?

Try a few it could be moving. Also try and twist the knife as you pull it out to catch as much of the zip tie as you can

^^ This. Ensure you tighten it, using a plier to pull the end helps. Even if it moves slightly, the knife will not fully deploy. If still things fail to move north, try adjusting the position of the tie, and try with some other ties as well.

Get thick ones, the heavy duty kind. I pulled out my remaining ones from when I did that to my Tenacious and I used 14" 35.5mm. Also, makes sure to mount it right, you want to have it as tight as possible obviously and also the locking part needs to be on the pocket outside side of the closed knife. To do this, insert the tie through the hole with the bracket to the inside and tighten it down, when it gets close to fully tightened make sure the bracket is to the outside. Also, clip it down in the bottom corner of the lip of your pocket, that will help the tie catch that big seam and open it. Pull it up and slightly backward when you draw it and it should work.

Also, it usually doesn't pull tight to the center. So you have to make sure the bulk of the tie (the part it threads into) is on the side you want to catch. For instance, If I wanted it set up for right hand carry I would position the tie so that the bulk of it is on the side of blade that will make contact with the pants material. I have also found that if you leave a little sharp piece of the tie protruding it can help grab the material. Lastly, I find it works better on designs like the Yojimbo 2 where the shape of the blade above the hole traps the tie and doesn't let it move.

^ He beat me to it...so yes, do what he said.

You may also want to try deploying towards a more rearward direction-- this should not fail to catch the "wave" at the end of your pocket seam

The ziptie wave really works best with the WT Karambit. Other than that, I also have to recommend the waved Endura. A full flat grind waved Endura would be sweet.

It's working fine (by not working at all) the knife is living life on its own terms and will not be defined by ghetto conversion useless zip tie mods. Carry on!

It takes some practice to get the hang of waving any knife IME. Took a couple days carrying my cqc7 to get it to wave consistently.

I think I got it to work finally. One zip tie wasn't enough so I went with two. Plus I was trying to twist it into the pocket to catch, but then I tried pulling it rearward and now it catches.

I attempted the zip tie method a while back and then I bought a real knife with the Emerson wave feature built into the knife straight from the Spyderco factory.
There is no comparison. The zip tie method is most certainly retrograde compared to what the Spyderco factory knife offers. Spyderco puts a lot of research, thought and testing in their products. Why try to reinvent the wheel?
