Zipper or Custom 110?

I am new to Buck knives but am convinced they beat what I have used as a hunter for years. I have used both lockbacks and fixed blades. I am impressed with the Zipper and the 110 Custom with Ionfusion. Have any of you used these knives? I am also interested in a BG42 blade.

I need a knife that can hold an edge, take the type of use that outdoor activity can give and still be passed down to other generations of hunters.

Can you comment on your experience? How is the Ionfusion to resharpen? Thanks in advance for your comments.

I personally consider Buck's BG-42 to be some of the best steel available at any price. It's very wear resistant and easy to sharpen. BG-42 is my favorite stainless steel for outdoor use.

I assume you are looking at the "VANGUARD" versus the 110. The "VANGAURD" is most presentable as hunting knife and a makes a fine show piece as well. I love Buck Knives, BUT the use of a "zipper" hook in a knife presents a problem or two with me. Buck is not the only manufacturer to present the public with this option. IMHO it is a gimmick to sell knifes, ANY competent person CAN skin a biggame animal without a hook. I see NO need to buy a knife with a hook that makes sharpening only more time consuming and difficult!!

This is a tough choice. Both of these knives should go the distance. I agree that if you can, you should buy the 110 in BG-42. One thing that 535sawby did not think about was us "incompetent" skinners! :D
I love that gut hook, it really works. It is something else that needs to be sharpened eventually. The first time i used a Zipper, I did 4 elk and 3 mule deer befor the hook got dull. I should also add that, as usual, I was cleaning someone elses game!
I hope this helps,

Joe Will you please go hunting with me. You sound like you are good with the Zipper. I will shoot the thing but I loose interest when it's time to clean it.:)

Ha!
Sure, rub my nose in it! :p But i can't imagine that you get too many deer in San Diego either.
It looks like i will be going with a group to Colorado to do some cow elk black powder hunting this year. I have never pulled the trigger on a black powder rifle so this should be interesting. If you happen to be in the neighborhood, drag your elk by and I will be more than happy to dress it out :)

Thanks for all your replies. I appreciate your opinions. Joe...after your gut hook got dull, did you have a difficult time sharpening it? (Its no fair if you get take the knife in to the factory and have it done!)

Again, thanks all.
