Zippered pouches?

Are zippered knife pouches worthwhile? Do I need one of these to protect my investment? If so, how does one determine what size is needed? Does the sheath fit inside the pouch as well? I understand they come in lengths like 14 and 17 inches. Would, for example, a 17 inch one be the correct one of a 12 inch Randall like a Model 18?

Wayne Robbins is the fellow that makes the Randall zipper cases that Tom Clinton sells. Contact him at 11520 Inverway, Belvidere, IL 61008. Phone (815)885-3712. Or Tom Clinton at tlclinton@aol.com Wayne will not sell you the "Randall Made" cases. They must be purchased through Tom Clinton. There was a time when you could get them through the Randall shop, but they have discontinued that item.

You may order cases direct from Wayne Robbins with no name or your own name (embossing) on the case, such as "John Doe Randall Collector". You must order at least 12 cases for special embossing and they will cost you about $7.00 each. You can mix the sizes. For 100 cases the price would be around $5.00 each.

Thanks to Sheldon I was made aware of my mistake in regard to Randall selling zipper cases. Constructive criticism is always acceptable and welcomed, in regard to my posts.

While it's true that Wayne Robbins makes the zippered cases with the Randall logo; based on conversations that I've had with Wayne, I was of the impression that Randall dealer Mr. Tom Clinton had exclusive rights for sale of the RMK marked cases and was unaware that these were available through RMK direct...I guess that just goes to show that you learn something new each day...

Nonetheless, Wayne is just a super guy to deal with, and can be reached at (815) 885-3712. On a side note, Wayne also makes the zippered cases for most other major manufacturers such as Spyderco too.

The quality of these cases is superb, and if helps you make your decision to buy, we own and use over 100 of Wayne's cases....not only for RMK's, but for everything else as well.

My only caveat here would be, buy more than you'll 'ever' need, because you'll simply fall in love with them, and soon find out that you need more...we'll be putting in our 4th order soon, for 20 more. :)

But, to answer your question, the cases we have are the smaller ones...11", 14", and 17", and they fit everything from the smallest miniatures to those with 8" blades, and have no problem fitting our large #18 into a 17" pouch...but that's the limit, a #12-9 would need to go up one size.

There's nothing like opening a package with a brand new Model 14 with a "fat" white micarta handle, nickel silver double hilt in one of Tom Clinton's pouches. The pouch really sets it off. SWTSMBO won't let me sell/trade/auction said knife. Not that I would know from first hand experience or anything.

Do you just store the knife in the pouch or is there room for the sheath in there as well and is there something to keep the sheath away form the blade?

Cheers.
