a buddy at work bought a case of Zippfizz at Costco- a powdered "energy" drink, can't speak to the drink, but I immediately laid claim to any of the empty containers 
I was able to put in 8 REI/UGO storm matches, striker and two tinder tabs packed on top. I can't say the container is bombproof waterproof, but it's definitely very water resistant- the container floats in the sink and when pushed under contents remained dry.
probably lots of other uses for these little containers (other tinder(s), spices, etc)
