Does anyone have any experience with the Zippo Cargo Case by OtterBox? The ad says it's waterproof and has a silicone gasket to create a watertight seal. Do you think that might be able to eliminate the fuel evaporation problem? It's also DOT approved and allows you to pack a Zippo in your checked baggage, but I was wondering if anyone knows if airlines outside the country are also allowing you to use it?

Here's the link:

PS: I've got a brand new brass Zippo that's a bit to shiny for my taste, does anyone know how to create a patina, or otherwise dull it down a bit? Thanks.

forget all that. Go with one of these.

Refillable, last a long time per fill, no evaporation, airline approved, windproof, no flints, no wicks,
All you need is a small can of premium butane and you are good for years.

great link skunk...I've had a cigar torch in my PSK for some time now, along with the 5+ ways of starting a fire methodology...another gaget for me to put on my list...bladeforms has certainly made my list long...only downside though!

That's pretty cool, I'll try to find one in one of the stores around here. I'd still like to hear anyone's opinions on the cargo box as well.

Try a section of inner tube from a bicycle. Slip it over the lighter and you've got a great seal.

So far it seems to work GREAT and it's cheap.

Additionally, throw a couple of extra flints in between the felt and the wick. You'll be glad you did ;)

The whole lighter goes inside the inner tube? How do you seal the open end?

Wouldnt the extra flints get lighter fluid on them if you kept them there?

Hello

You use a half inch wide inner tube strip, just slide it over the lid and onto the lighter. It seals up the joint between the top and bottom of the lighter. Basically a big wide rubber band that seals the lighter.

As for the flints, the fuel won't hurt them.

As an aside, while I like the insert idea it kinda does away with one of the zippos advantages, multi-fuel choices. You can put almost any kind of fuel into a Zippo and it'll burn. Not true with the insert.

Hope that helps :D

It's brass, it will naturally tarnish with age, probably quicker then you think.
That insert looks cool, I love my current zippo, but it does not keep fuel nearly as long as the last couple I have had. Looks like a bargain at 10 smackers.

Just ordered! I can finally use my zippo again!
