Ok, I was lighting a candle in high winds so the flame was hitting one side of the chimney, bluing it. Can I remove it or will I have to just live with it? Also, have I damaged it? Thanks

I wonder if you might have just got it coated with carbon -- if so it'll scrub off without too much trouble. If you really did heat blue it that'll come off too, but it'll take some abrasion. Fine Scotchbrite'll do it, or fine steel wool.

is it??

i just held my zippo pretty much sideways, parallel to the ground, and let the flame lick the side of the chimney until the whole case got pretty darn hot...

no discoloration.

Hold it upright... it get's hotter that way... and yes, it takes a while. Most cigarette smokers only need a few moments to get their smoke lit... cigar smokers and zippo tricksters encounter it more often cause their zips are lit longer and more often.

holy cow!

i didn't need to hold it upright.

indeed, one side of the chimney did discolor a slight orangish (no purple/blue).

i had spoke too soon when i had done it. after it cooled down, the discoloration was there.

maybe you all have weird zippos or maybe mines a freak. I dont smoke but I play with mine all the time- its on my computer table, and I hold it sideways, upside down, upwards for long periods of time. I just tried it sideways for over 30 seconds and no discoloration. Ive had this thing for 10 years or so. Maybe the new ones change colors?
