Zippo satin surface finish?

The only Zippos I own have brushed or polished finishes. Although I think it looks better, I hate the polished finish because of the tendency to scratch and their ability to be a finger print magnet. What are the satin ones like? I'm eying the fighting leprechaun one, but I really don't feel like getting a zippo that I won't enjoy due to scratching / fingerprints.

Thanks!

I recently got a new Zippo with a Joker card on it and I haven't seen a single print on it in the month or two I've had it. It looks great.

I have the Street Crome one and it looks really nice. Not one fingerprint and you have to look hard to find scratches.

solid brass armored for me... once it patinas it's the bomb :D luv mine it's bullet proof and solid btw mines polished

+1 for the street chrome. Its also cheaper than most other finishes.

The only think I do not like about it is that it makes it harder to do some tricks that's pretty much the only reason I have one. That and melting paracord ends.

Heres a picture of my satin chrome zippo. As you can see, its not immune to scratches but it's much better than the high polished finish:

In terms of scratch and fingerprint resistance, I think the best finish would be the black PVD finish. The PVD finish zippos are more expensive but much more durable. Black would show fingerprints less than the the other colored ones like mood indigo.

Is that the Black Matte?

No. The name of the black PVD finished zippo is the "Black Ice". The matte finish is more like paint thats pretty smooth. I forget exactly what PVD stands for, its it's a coating they put over chrome zippos that gives it almost a grippy feel and a very luminous look.

In this picture you can see the difference between the matte and PVD finishes. I don't have a Black Ice on hand but a mood indigo instead (a bluish, purplish color). The Black Ice would be just like the mood indigo except black in color.

Have you held any of those? They get fingerprints like mad. My friend has a purple abyss one which is like a purple black ice.

That mood indigo is mine. Yes its true the PVD finish does pretty much get finger prints pretty easily, but with a black backing it isn't as noticeable as with a colored backing. You can see the fingerprints if you look at it with light shining at just the right angle on it.

The matte finish isn't the most durable though. I was just careful with mine. I think the black crackle finish would be a lot more resistant to scratches but I'm not sure since I haven't given the black crackle I have enough pocket time. All the paint type finishes are basically fingerprint-proof, just not always scratch resistant.

True, I saw a guy who had a Zippo DLC coated and it was sick he was like $10 if you can scrach it. He like rubbed sand on it, shook it around with keys and tons of other stuff. Other than some smudges it looked brand new. But I really like the Street Crome. I like when things come looking kind of used so I don't feel bad about beating on them a little bit.

Awesome, that pic of the satin chrome really helps. It seems like a middle of the road option between the brushed and polished finishes - is that about right?

Basically. The one thing about the brushed chrome finish is that only the 2 faces are brushed. the sides are still high polished. The satin chrome finish has that finish on all sides of the zippo.

The "Street Chrome" is nice, have one I bought for 10 dollars, real good carry with me everywhere.
