Hi guys.
Brand new to knife making...saying knife making and not forging beacause i am first cutting my teeth on stock removal.
Have made exactly one knife out of 5160 only using hand tools....hard bloody work!!

Will have a lot of questions but the first one is...
I am bussy getting things together to build a small freon gas bottle forge.
Ive got firebrick, ceramic blanket, refractory castable cement a tank and a burner.

Whilst walking through one of my clients tile factory i noticed a bag of Zirconium Silicate. Quickly did a google and found that it is a good forge liner.
Now i dont know if it is in pure form or if its got a binding agent, if its pure can i mix it with my refractory cement and paint it on the inside of the forge?

Thanks in advance

I'm guessing no one here knows about the stuff because generally they are very helpful
Sorry I cant help

I saw you'd posted other day but had no clue what the answer was to your question. Then the thread fell off first page and I forgot about it. I suspect you could mix with refractory agent. From reading about the product it surely wouldn't melt!

How about posting some links on what you found so we can actually learn something about what you are asking?

Youre a bunch of helpful buggers aint ya
Ciao
Why you don t ASK your client that question ??? No one can give a more accurate answer than him ! He use that thing , he know what is inside that bag ???
Ciao !

You post a question and no one responds. You assume people are ignoring you, but perhaps they don't know the answer and therefore, aren't clogging your thread with replies without information. So in response to not getting FREE advice from the people here, you leave us a terse insult. I wouldn't expect to get very many answers to any question you ask with that attitude.

Signed: One of the "buggers".
Ciao !
