I would like to get a Zombie folder so that when the fad is over I would have an interesting knife for my collection. Is there any good ones out there that can be relied on for use or are they, for the most part, from less than reputable companies and not good for EDC.

There's a bright (toxic) green Ontario RAT 1. That thing is actually useful. Spice it up with some red paint.

My Microtech Socom Delta Zombie is definitely reliable, as the Zombie finish is just that--a finish. The knife is very well put together and F&F is as good as any custom I've had.

I wish more manufacturers would use Toxic/Lime Green scales on their folders. I tend to like them with satin or plain hardware (without the black coating), but it is still a very easy color to find in the woods (like Orange) so it's actually functional as far as I'm concerned (I hike a lot).

Right now these are the only production companies I know of that use it on folders:

Microtech
Ka-Bar
Ontario (RAT 1 and 2)
Boker
Cold Steel

I think Buck makes the Spitfire in some sort of zombie-like green finish as well.

You can ge a Cold Steel Micro Recon which is a good solid folder in that "toxic green" color, though surprisingly, Cold Steel of all people showed restraint by not marketing it as a "zombie knife".

Don't forget the newer Spyderco Catcherman, not marketed as a zombie knife but sure looks the part.
