Hello I just found my 2012 Ka-Bar Catalogue. A few things caught my interest one of them was the zombie line. I know that is just a marketing thing but with all of my knife regular colors I would like a radical color on one of my knife. I really wanted a folder so I thought that the mule would be perfect but then I saw that it was made in China. I usually don't deal with knives from China only the U.S. , so I wanted to know what is a really strong E.D.C. Folder. I heard The Cold Steel Recon 1 is unbelievable for the price but any thoughts will be read and appreciated.

Thank you in advanced.

The Mule is a beast. IMHO it's not an EDC if you want pocket carry (that's why they sell the Mules with a belt sheath). My son got us both the Kharon folder and it's been a surprisingly good EDC. The handle shape was so comfortable in my hand that I ended up buying the JAB Baconmaker folder and then went and got a Dozier folder. They all came with great fit and finish and were some of the sharpest factory edges I've gotten in recent memory.

Dude I'm pretty sure the zombie mule is made in Taiwan, which is very much not China.

Taiwan makes a quality product :)

if you don't want to buy it because it's not American, that's acceptable :) but you're missing out. i don't think, at all, it will be made in the USA soon, and you can't beat it.

buy one. hate it? sell or gift it.

though after you use it? you might just buy another version.

the USA does not have the knife making talent of capacity, so it's gotta come from somewhere. there are no jobs to save.

now, if someone were to make a new plant in the usa, they could take a lot of contracts, but someone has to start that. doesn't exist.

KaBar is growing capacity, but it's super slow. they don't want to get too big either. just right. tricky stuff.

motorcycle? any foreign parts there? :D just pullin' your leg.

people buy what they want to buy. as i've said before, i can respect that. though as i said above, sometimes, you can't buy a thing anywhere else, because nobody makes it here, or ever will.

fortunately, there's plenty of people in other countries that buy OUR stuff. this is good.

I agree with everyone who says U.S.A. is the way to go. The U.S.A. knives just pure quality and I have had many problems with overseas knives. And again as you might have noticed this is my first post and I just want to thank everybody once again.

Hello Esspro98. I was shopping around online recently and wanted something with colour to add to my collection. I put an orange Kershaw Zing in my cart (great little knife, btw) when I chanced upon the Ka-Bar ZK Kharon tanto. The colours really popped (I really dig that green and black) and thought 'what the hell' and ordered a Kharon too. It just arrived today.

When I first heard about Ka-Bar's "Zombie Killer" line, I got quite a chuckle out of it. Well, the Kharon tanto is no joke. It's very well-made, super smooth to deploy, blade sits dead centre between the scales, and it's razor sharp right out of the box. Nothing wrong with AUS8 steel imo, and Taiwan is capable of making one helluva knife (for reference: Spyderco's Taichung Taiwan lines.) For the price, it's a steal, and if you don't like it, you're not out a lot of cash.

No probs. I think the Kharon surprised a lot of folks--I know I was half-expecting a cheap piece of novelty garbage. Not the case. Anyone who's turned off by the zombie thing ought to try out a JAB Baconmaker as previously suggested... looks like a good alternative.

I'm a big Kabar fan. With that said, I'd also like to recommend a Kershaw Skyline. Great, economical blade, made in the USA. Slim enough to EDC, very handy.

Not getting into the whole overseas domestic thing but I respect your stance to choose. That said, I got Mrs. Venture a Kahron folder as a Valentines day present. She loved it, edc'd it, and used the crap out of it in her gardening last year and this. except for some wear on the tip finish from slicing open bags top soil, it sharpens back up just fine and cleans up well. Gotta recommend it for what my opinion is worth.
