ZT 0100...Anyone here highly recommend this knife?

Hey guys...I'm kind of looking for any excuse to buy the 0100, I don't have "a lot" of fixed blades but I love the looks of this knife, LOVE recurve blades and I don't own any 3V yet. I'm mainly into folders but would like to have a few solid fixed blades around that I can count on in a pinch.

I have and USE a couple smaller fixed blades (Strider DB and ZT 0121 *love both*) that I'll carry if I know that I have a lot of heavy duty work/cutting to be done. I also have a BK2 and a Ka-Bar Chop Stick...the BK2 and the 0100 are about the same length but the BK2 is a bit heavier and thicker, would the 3V steel more than makeup for the extra strength provided by the extra thickness of the BK2? I know that 3V is highly regarded for is toughness.

The 0100 "looks" like it would be the better slicer but if its also a lot stronger than the heavier/thicker BK2 that's a plus. I have crowbars for prying BUT its nice to know that you "could' use the 0100 if needed for sue a task...hasn't happened yet but ya never know.

If anyone here has really used their 0100 I'd love to hear some feedback.

Thanks so much!

I'm pretty sure the 0100 is D2 tool steel, not a V steel.

I have one, love it. I've used it on various hikes to chop and hack and it stays on my go gear for if I need it. Comfortable in hand, holds and edge well.

Mine is currently with TIE Tactical having a real sheath custom made for it. The one that comes with it is probably my biggest issue. Other than that I love it

It's definitely 3v.

If you love recurves then get it, you will not be disappointed. I got rid of mine because of the recurve but have regretted it. I have been looking for another 4.5-6" blade and I might be grabbing one again.

I'll confirm 3v. I don't own one but if I finally find one for the right price you better believe I'll be picking it up.

Never owned or handled one but it is my grail fixed blade. I think there's a youtube vid somewhere of a guy hammering it through a 3/8 bolt, pretty impressive.

It's CPM 3V. I waited until I saw it below $200 on BladeHQ and got one. It may be less elsewhere now. Crazy comfortable ergos on the handle.

CPM 3V is a high toughness, wear-resistant tool steel made by the Crucible Particle Metallurgy process. It is designed to provide maximum resistance to breakage and chipping in a high wear-resistance steel. It offers impact resistance greater than A2, D2, Cru-Wear, or CPM M4, approaching the levels provided by S7 and other shock resistant grades. CPM 3V is intended to be used at 58/60 HRC in applications where chronic breakage and chipping are encountered in other tool steels, but where the wear properties of a high alloy steel are required.

Thanks so much for the feedback, I knew the blade was made of CPM-3V and that's one of the major bonuses that attracted me to the knife other than the blade and handle shape...that and being made by ZT. I've yet to buy a ZT in which I didn't feel that, at the very least, I got my moneys worth and in most cases, more than my moneys worth. I now own more ZT folders than any other brand.

I notice that a lot of companies that make fixed blades out of 3V often times (not always) use a thickness of .190" rather than a full .250" and I assume that is due to the strength of 3V. Of course my 0121 is also .190" thick so maybe that's simply thick enough for most hard use...not sure.

Living in Florida and always on the lookout for that next big hurricane to tear a path through the state I've tried to stock up on items (food, water, medicine and so on) that would be very helpful if we were left standing but without help from the outside world for a while. The 0100 struck me a a knife that could not only slice food if needed (I like my BK2 but its not the best at slicing/cutting) but would also be just as good if I needed to chop and remove debris with it. Not trying to get too heavy here...just thinking that it could most likely serve more than just one purpose.

Anyone know if the sheath insert is the nicer black Kydex or the clear plastic that is more commonly found in that style of sheath?
Thanks again guys! The ZT section of the forum is always so helpful.
Take care,
Kevin

Although the ZT 0100 is kind of heavy at over 11 ounces it's balanced well, great grip and the extra weight does come in handy.

The sheath is a little weak with cheap plastic (not kydex I don't think) insert but workable.

The blade is the same 0.19" thickness as the 0121. The 0121 is just stubby!

i own a 0100. feels like it was made to fit in my hand. the g10 scales have a similar pattern to the 0300 series so there is major grip factor. ill have to throw a pic up showing how the g10 is milled with a contour.

Here are side by side size and sheath comparison pictures of the ZT 0100, 0121 and 0150:

that's EXACTLY how I felt about that router. I even hooked it up to The Clapper since I needed to reset it so often.

Great looking pics! Not sure if I should hold up if the 0777M390 is just around the corner. I don't NEED another fixed blade BUT I want that one.

I KNOW this is awfully stupid question, as I SHOULD know this, but who is the member here that sells Kershaw/ZT's? I'm having total brain lock...I apologize in advance for my stupidity.

Thanks guys!

Dave the KershawGuy is the man. You can also email him.

No harm in asking. We all help each other here.
