ZT 0200 lock engagement question

Hey guys,

I just got a ZT 0200, and its incredible. Fit and finish is perfect, ergonomics are fantastic, and the lockup is rock solid.

I do have one issue though. It seems that the lock bar travel is inconsistent. Sometimes it will engage the full length of the liner on the left of the blade, engage right in the middle of the blade, and sometimes closer. This happens randomly, and isn't due to how hard I open them (i.e. it doesn't travel farther if I flick it hard). The lockup is perfect though, but I fear the liner might be wearing too fast?

Thanks in advance.

With the way you describe how the lock engages a bit inconsistently yet rock solid, it doesn't sound quite right to me, but I am unable to understand why.

We are here for you, if you find that you can't live with it. Probably something we should take a look at. Sorry for the issue.

Thanks for the response. It's weird, but wherever the lock decides to travel, it locks up solid. Does that make sense? Is that even possible?

I've had framelocks do this when new, and they almost always settle in after a while. My guess is that it has to do with the finish of the contact surfaces between the blade and lockbar getting broken in -- essentially they will "lap" together with use, after that engagement becomes consistent.

Ok... I think I've noticed a trend now. When I open it quickly (thumbstuds, flipper, inertia), it engages the full length of the liner, on the left of the blade. When I open it slowly (thumbstuds, two hands) It will engage right in the middle of the blade. So, it engages more when I open it softly, not hard.

Hmm... also noticed something else today. When it engages further to the right, I can wiggle the blade a bit, and the bar will move more to the left. Is this normal?

Hi again, k_s ... can't speak for Thomas, but IMO that's not a good thing; i.e. lock moving from more engaged to less engaged. On properly fitted frame and liner locks, when doing blade/pivot torsion and other lock safety tests, the lock will either engage slightly further, or not move at all.

I would send the knife to Thomas, I'm sure he will take care of you.

ks, you will need to call and talk with warranty at 1-800-325-2891 for status.
