I'm thinking about buying a used 0300. Seller says it has slight lock rock, but still feels solid. Pictures show the lock bar at 100% (basically flush with the blade tang, but not all the way over). Somebody, somewhere on the internet said that some ZT knives have an adjustable interface to address the lock rock issue.
It looks like a good deal, but I don't want to buy a knife that's on its way out, or spend a lot trying to extend it's life, when new ones are still available.
Hopefully you guys can help me answer some questions.

1) Does that adjustable interface exist?
2) Would that be on the 0300?
3) Could carbidizing do the trick? Cost?
5) Any other remedies you can think of?

A loose pivot can cause the lock bar to travel significantly further than a tight pivot, could just need tightening of the pivot to be right back to earlyish lock up with almost no play.

Hi C-tac -

1) Does that adjustable interface exist? - Yes
2) Would that be on the 0300? - No
3) Could carbidizing do the trick? Cost? - I would investigate other options first
5) Any other remedies you can think of? - Adjust the pivot

The 300 never came with a lockbar insert. The knife is very robust, and the design uses the "thumb studs" to stop and locate the open blade against the liners.

It would have to have a lot of use to wear the lockbar face to the point where it would rock, but stuff does happen.

You could try adjusting the knife, and then if the lockup is not acceptable you could send the knife to ZT to have them inspect the knife, and possibly adjust it.

The 300 is discontinued, so I am not sure how that is handled if the knife needs replacement components.

Good luck!

check their website, I don't think they warranty any knives to other than the original owner or do warranty on discontinued knives, I may be wrong here I don't have a print warranty in hand I can get to till morning.

mqqn.
carbidizing would make it much worse. Other options like you mentioned.

And great info btw. Your usually pretty thorough.

Thanks - I have no experience with carbidizing so I could not comment - I appreciate the kind comment.

Alright. Thanks for the info guys. I think I'll pay it safe and wait. Maybe not. Almost hoping someone else will buy it so I can stop thinking about it
