I'm stuck on which production knife to get next, the ZT 0301 or the Spyderco Tuff. I think that I know everything there is to know about these knives, but was hoping someone on the forum had EDC'd both knives and could give me there thoughts on whether they liked one over the other. I've watched a couple YouTube videos that mentioned that the Tuff had lock failure while being used to stab things. Also, if I bought the Tuff, I'd probably also ask someone to make me a custom G10 scale. I like having big, hard-use knives in my rotation, and both the 0301 and the Tuff seem appealing.

I have the Tuff it's is a great knife. I really like the angle to handle is at. I haven't had any lock problems or even anything that might be close to them. When I first got the knife and would open it up it did feel weird. But I found it was the steel lock tab (or whatever they call it). Good knife!!

As much as I love the 0301 I vote Tuff, its one of my all time favorites. Love it!

Tuff is tough but so is ZT 0300. I say Tuff:

Tuff is lighter by nearly 2 ounces and narrower. Better for EDC. It has the excellent 3V steel. Haven't heard of lock failures on it. Be prepared for breakin period and the sharp Spydie hole. Also, try it in your hands before buying. Some have found the extreme angle of the grip not to their liking. ShepardCC has done a killer scale and standoff upgrade on it: Pimped Spyderco Tuff.

The only real answer is get both. But really that is a hard one. They are both fantastic knives. If price is a factor I believe the Tuff can be had cheaper new. But you may have to wait for a production run. Used price should be a wash. I'd check with Kershawguy and see what he's moving 0300BW's at too.

To those that have the Tuff, can you do what that guy did in the video and tell me if your lock fails?

I tried it just now just like you did on the palm of my hand with about 10 strokes. No failure. My lock actually takes a bit of force to move. I don't use mine as a batton.

Did you send it to Spyderco for repair? If not, why not? If so, was it fixed?

If you are talking to me that is not my video. I only posted the video and link because you said you have never heard of lock failure on a Tuff.

That doesn't happen to mine.
I now have a dent in my hand...
I think it may bruise.
