Ok Here is the question. My ZT just arrived and I am trying to figure the other ways of a/o opening besides using the flipper.

I have the 0200 which with a combination of using the thumbstuds and a flick of the wrist the blade flies open.

I have a Whirlwind Kershaw which shoots open very fast using thumbstuds.

So, how do I use the thumbstuds on the 0350 and let the ao mechanism kick in?

The thumbstuds act as blade stops (think Strider), that is what the flipper is primarily for. You can use the thumbstuds as you would any other knife, but it's just not needed. Use the flipper, that is why it's there.

I can wrist flick assisted openers too. But it takes a bit more finesse and power than in manuals. If that's your preferred technique, practice it carefully and you'll get the hang of it.

You can easily open it using the thumbstuds. "Push" it out from the base of the stud and then it will open quite nicely. I usually use the flipper for the 0350 since it's a very efficient way to open the knife.

As Artfully has said, if you give it a nice snap from your wrist, it will open that way as well, but I just use the stud or flipper.

Been carrying one daily for over a year.

It opens positively with the thumbstud. Not lightning fast, but positive. One thing that may be happening is that if you don't hold it "right", the flipper can rub slightly against your finger and slow it just enough to prevent full lockup.

Honestly, the flipper really is the way to go.

my big fingers and the thumb studs dont agree. the flipper is as fast as any auto I have owned. I now have 2 kershaws and a ZT, I like their flipper line so much. I'm on the list for the 50/51 and disapointed their not flippers. I know your looking for other options but my advice is play with the flipper a bit. When I first got my jyd it took me a bit and then I fell in love after the 0350 with the assist I was hooked. it's been the 0350 EDC since.

Thanks to all. I took all the advice and now am a lot happier with the flipper on this. :)
Good to go.
