Correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like the composite blade on my ZT 0350 is not a sandwich of two metals (like my Caly3 CF is), but rather an Elmax edge bonded to the 14C28N blade with maybe copper between?

the top layer of steel is brazened to the edge with copper.

here is a video that explains it.

That would be correct. The two metals are brazed together which they call a composite blade as apposed to the laminated blade on your ZDP Caly 3. If you want to find out more about it search "composite blade" here on Bladeforums. There is a ton of information and pictures demonstrating the advantages and strength (I'm not saying that laminated blades are at all inferior) of the design for those that may be a bit skeptical.

Thanks for the info guys, the video explained a lot. That's a cool approach to the problem of expensive steels. I'm glad the wacky joint pattern is not just aesthetic. For some reason I would have disliked that more.

I love my ZT0350CB. The fact that the cutting edge is ELMAX is simply amazing best steel I have used to date.
