so I got my zt0350 flipper, and it has some sort of assist to the opening.

i like it for now, but I have heard of people taking it out and making the knife real nice.

Anyone do that sort of thing? Is it worth doing?

Take it out immediately. You'll thank me when you do. Unscrew the front scale pull the spring bar out, you can always put it back in. However I guarantee that you won't. It's actually faster without the spring

Take out the big screw and the three little screws then take the black scale off. Pull out the spring bar and then put the scale and screws back on. Adjust the large screw to the desired tension. Tighten it up and then back it off until you've proper action. Use blue Loctite if possible

Make sure the knife blade is open when you undo the scale, otherwise the assisting mechanism will spring out, and possibly poke your eye. I took out the Speedsafe bar from my 350, and I love it now. I was going to sell it prior, but I fixed it up.

I have a 0350ts on the way and I might end up doing this as well. This will be my first assisted opening knife and I am not sold yet.

Assisted opening knives are very overrated. The 350 is a better knife without it!

night and day difference, its amazing, much smoother with out.

I was wanting a BM 300, but im good now, I'll take another zt first.

I did strip the middle grip screw unfortunately putting it back in, so its in there real good.....

I had to adjust the blade centering, but now its all squared away and this knife is even more impressive.

Thanks for the speedy replies and help

He's not lieing, i was in no rush to take out the tension bar. I wasn't real attached to it, but it wasn't bad either. Now with out the speed safe, its excellent.

Sounds like it worked out for you. The 350 is great, a very durable knife. I beat the hell out of mine & it's still perfect.

On another note, do yourself a favor & stay away from the BM 300. Very disappointing.

What was disappointing about yours? I really liked mine. Flipping action could've been better, but it wasn't awful :)

OP: I, too, didn't love the 350 until after de-asisting. However, now it is my fastest manual--even faster than the Kerhaw Skylines and OD-2 in my collection.

Agreed. Super smooth, too, and (IMO) good ergos. Like CJZ said, flipping action leaves a little to be desired, but it isn't the worst.

It just wasn't style. Very thick in pocket. The handle felt very short and stubby I like some real estate in a handle.

Have you used the Adamas? That's my favorite large Benchmade folder. Just doesn't have a flipper (but the 300 doesn't really either!)

Enjoy your 350. It's an excellent knife. I'm a construction contractor & mine had been my jobsite carry for a long time. Still perfectly centered with no play.

Do you guys know what's up with the ZT 0301 and 0300 naming? The only difference between the 0301 and 0300 seems to be the color scheme, but most of ZT's knives in the same series just add some letters next to their numbers (Ie, 0550aaa.) to indicate its finish, colorscheme, etc.

KAI will mail you a new screw for free. If you don't want to try to remove the stripped one yourself, you can send it in to KAI for free, too.

That is really good to hear, I have no idea how to remove the stripped screw. What website do i look up for this? I assume i just google KAI

Speedsafe can be cool, but I tend to be more of a fan of manual nowadays for at least for flippers and autos are always still fun.
