ZT 0350 washers

Hey. Has anyone fitted their 0350 with equally sized washers? I ask because I've had blade centering issues. Mine is now a manual. I think the blade centering problem is because of that one very small washer that's used to make room for the torsion bar. If anyone's tried same size washers, please let me know. Thanks.

I've never had a 350, or taken apart my 300. However, I have disassembled a few frame lock knives and seen a video of a 0300 disassembled. I thought that the reason one washer was smaller in diameter was so it wouldn't get in the way of the lock bar (frame or liner).

To answer your question, no I don't think changing the washer size (assuming you mean diameter) would affect centring. The washer on the lock side of my Sebenza is half the size or the non-locking side and it is perfectly centred.

If it's really bad and rubbing the liner, you could send it in.

Huh..interesting. I was thinking that maybe the small washer was allowing the lock bar to push the blade over farther. I've gotten it centered, but the pivot is just a hair tighter than I'd like. The action is nice, but... Maybe it just needs some time to wear in. Anyway, this is what I get for having "ocd" about blade centering. My 550 is perfectly centered and super smooth. I shouldn't compare these two.
Thanks for the info.

I took my 0350 apart to deassist, and couldn't for the life of me get it to center up...so I boxed it up and sent it back to zt..they sent it back a week later all fixed up

I like them assisted as much as deassisted...I prefer the zt kvt knives, but my 350 was good either way

And you are correct about the smaller washer being smaller to make room for the torsion bar...you can get zt to send you some more washers so you can have both sides with a large washer...

I have deassisted my 0350, and blade is centered with original factory washers installed.
Flipps like a dream in ANY position (right-side-up, up-side-down, side-ways, pinky-flip to reverse-grip, etc. etc.).
.
As KnifeDreams stated, it made it twice the knife in my mind also (much better likability for me, and everyone who has handled mine, compared to assisted option). I would not have a 0350 any other way!

Differing diameter washers should have no effect on blade centering.

Chances are, in your particular situ (assuming knife was centered before de-assist, and nothing else changed) that the knife was as some point assembled with a little tension in the scales/liners that was being overcome by the torsion bar being installed. More than likely a simple assembly adjustment is all that's needed.
1. Loosen all the fasteners 1 - 1.5 turns (until they are slightly free)
2. Tighten the blade pivot screw.
3. If blade is off-center, put pressure on it laterally slightly beyond center in opposite direction.
4. While putting pressure on blade (slightly beyond center) alternately snug up all fasteners.
5. Tighten all fasteners (don't reef on them, just tighten them snugly).
6. Relieve pressure on blade & compare to previous assembly.
7. Loosen pivot screw and adjust action to your liking.
8. Possibly readjust to tweak one way or the other repeating above steps until it's to you liking.
9. Depending on your preference add thread-lock tape or compound/liquid and let knife sit (so as not to get compound into pivot area as it dry's.

If this sounds too complicated, PM me and I will help you further.

Regards,
Chris

Thanks Chris. That's what I did a while back and it worked. Out of the box, new, mine was not centered. Took a few tries to get it right. I wish things like that didn't bother me so much.

Oh and for anyone who might want to upgrade their 350, there's a guy on eBay making titanium standoffs and deep-carry clips. I never liked the backspacer and clip. They're a bit pricey, but they sure do look nice.
