Both scales are made from red oak. The darker one was stained with Miniwax Kona stain and the ligher one with Miniwax Red Oak and Gunstock. Both were then stabilized with Elmer's wood stabilizer.

Yes, blade is centered. The wood is surprisingly strong enough to withstand tightening without cracking. I can even tighten the pivot screw to the point where the blade won't even come out freely. The wood stabilizer really makes these solid.
