Zt 0452 making kindling

Out here camping with the family, my reprofiled 0452cf did some "hard use" and shaved this pile of shavings. My stout fixed blades did the splitting and ZT did all the shavings.

Opens beer like a champ!!

Love that wave mod! It would be awesome if someone developed a universal attachable wave like the universal thumb stud. I’m not sure how they would attach it securely though.

I have already made several styles of bolt on/ attachable/ detachable waves for my use. Being a programmer/ machinist has its perks ;)

Here's the splitting choice for this fire. .270 thick z-wear.

How did you attach the wave? It looks like it was just bonded on, but it's hard to tell. It looks like a great bottle opener that's for sure!

TIG welded on and sealed with jb weld. It's an excellent bottle opener.

As far as the knife goes, it performed flawlessly. Lock up was solid, the lock bar never moved. This isn't even "hard use" for this knife.

Love it man! Hope you guys are having fun. I'll be camping in a couple of weeks locally here. I'll share some pics!

Nice, Shiny.

I know there's a patent out there for an aftermarket wave opener. Don't think I've ever seen one in use.

I've never seen a patented welded on pocket opener. In any case, this is for personal use. They aren't up for sale although I occasionally gift one to a friend.

Nor I. :) And I've been pretty far down the wave-type-opener patent rabbit hole as a matter of curiosity. There are more types than people think. Ol' Ernie's patent, which is about to expire, only covers one very specific use case.

I was just commenting because Lapedog Lapedog posted "It would be awesome if someone developed a universal attachable wave like the universal thumb stud."

I like em too  I think I know most every aftermarket one produced. The ones I make are quite unique.

The cutting performance is what stands out most on this blade to me though.

The 452 is probably one of the best ZTs ever produced in my eyes. It is decidedly very un-ZT in that you get alot of blade length for very little weight and that blade has good cutting performance.

I am a major fan of the fact that there is no stainless steel liner under the cf scale. Those stainless steel liners drive me crazy, seems like alot of extra weight for nothing. If you’re going to put a liner, atleast make it titanium. If you can’t do that, atleast skeletonize the damn thing.

I carried the 0620cf for years. I have experienced corrosion on the stainless scale as well. I actually had multiple of the zt0630, zt0630cf, 0620, 0620cf. Was my favorite for some time. I prefer more blade length so I just make any knife I like pocket open.

Yes the 620cf was a huge favourite of mine too. I think the knife could be greatly improved with a custom scale that deletes the steel liner. I would also find rust under the scale on that stainless liner. Still the 0620 family is probably the other ZT I consider a top contender for my favourite.

I have an HD7 that I absolutely love but the issue is it had that rediculously designed HD7 lock that they had before the latest version with the steel lock tab was introduced. Basically Emerson designed the lock to come out of box “already broken in.” What that means is if you carry the knife every day for three months the lock will go all the way over to the other side. (It came almost all the way over) Another month and the lock slip starts.
