ZT 0452CF vs 710-1401 vs Southard vs 810

I'm having a hard time making a decision here. I've been wanting a 710-1401 KW Exclusive for quite awhile now, but when I saw the 0452CF I was like "I have to have that". So, I've been saving up to buy the 0452CF, but recently I noticed that the price went down again on the 710-1401, this makes me wonder if the 710-1401 is going out of production and KW is trying to sell the last of them..the 710-1401 has been selling for quite a while now (over a year) and I don't know when I'll have money to buy another knife. I'm afraid that if I buy the 0452CF the 710-1401 will go out of production before I'll be able to buy one. It also seems like the 0452CF is having some first production problems that should be worked out by the next batch. I've also been thinking about the Benchmade 810 in CPM-M4 and the Spyderco Southard. Which knife would you buy out of the four (810, 0452CF, Southard, or 710-1401) if you didn't know when you would be able to buy another knife again (say at least 6 months)?

Thanks guys.

Can you find a ZT0452cf? I would go for the KW exclusive as the ZT is a production knife.

I really love the 0452CF. But the 810 has m4 so that's always a plus if you want to be able to cut through other metal lol. Strong stuff

I was considering the 1st three on your list the last month or so. I went with the 0452 to try something different and because I love the design. I also had a D2 710 awhile back and knew it took a back seat to my Military (for me). I also figured the availability of the Southard will make it easier to pick up used at a good price soon enough.

In any event, those are all great blades you are looking at and gotta figure you'll be pleased with any of them. But Colorado makes a good point on the 710 availability...and that is a great price for a lot of knife.

Good luck with you choice!

I think you should go with the KW Exclusive 710. Get one while you can since they won't be around forever.

Such a hard choice...The 710 wins in terms of value, the 810 is a monster, the 0452CF wins in aesthetics, and the Southard probably has the best carryability and F&F.

I'll say IMO the F&F of the 0452 is top notch and it's so slim it carries very well.

It is a monster when you flick it open though and the Southard may look friendlier to non-knife folks.

A couple pics of my pick! :foot:

Would love to see pics with the Southard myself. I almost requested comparison pics last week I was so on the fence...

I had a Southard and sold it. Did not fit good in my hand. I have the two Benchmade and either one is a good choice. The 710 is okay but the 810 fits in the hand better. The 810 in M390 is a better choice over the M4 for me anyway. The 452CF is on my list but I'll wait and see if one day it will come in a better steal. I would like to see it come in S90V or S110V that would be awesome.

How about in 204P and G-10?

I agree with those characterizations with the Southard a close second in terms of value.

I recently acquired a second-hand Southard. I really hate the factory clip, it was very painful to do much flipping of the knife, and it wasn't all that great in pocket either. Bought a custom clip from BF user STR, which eliminated the hotspot at the end of the clip, and also works great in pocket for deeper, more secure carry. Another option is to just remove the clip and leave it slick, it really feels great in hand that way. Probably would want to get a holster for it and leave it on my belt if I went that route.

I had an issue with mine and sent it in. I asked them if they could put one on and they said sure. There was no charge. I would not be surprised if they sent you one if you asked.
