Just purchased my first ZT, Im being careful not to put pressure on the framelock when opening, but the detent seems so strong that when i flip it, my finger is getting unreasonably sore. What gives?

ZT are notorious for having overly stiff detents on many of their models.

It will break in some with use but will still remain on the strong side.

Sure, it’s worth a shot. I use a tiny drop of their 10w on my flippers when necessary and it definitely smoothes things out.

Mine had a strong detent when it first arrived. It took several hundred flips before it got better. Like JAB JAB stated, some of them are strong and the 456 has been the worst.
Don't know how much good putting a drop of oil will help, but it doesn't hurt to try. You can also back off the pivot screw a tad to see if that helps. Eventually it does get better, you just have to give your finger a rest and let it get over the soreness. I had to alternate with both hands to give my finger a rest.

my 456cf has a pretty strong detent. I don't mind, because I don't have to worry about a failed deployment. Just use it and it will break in some and you will get used to it. It has the strongest detent of all my ZTs.
