I am a big fan of kershaw knives and i would like to get me a zero tolerance.I have been looking at the ZT 0500 mudd folder. No one around here has one that i can hold in my hand so i was wondering if anyone has one and what your opinion is of the knife. I really like the look of the knife it reminds me a little bit of my kersahw ram and i really like that knife. So let me know your thoughts. Thanks:thumbup:

I have a MUDD and have carried it as my work knife for the past several months.

It is very robust. The action is smooth and reliable. I have opened it countless times and the action is always the same. The pivot is protected from dirt, so I don't expect that to change.

I normally wear gloves, and this knife is easy to open and manipulate while wearing gloves.

The handle is very aggressively textured, I knocked the "teeth" down a bit on my belt grinder.

I have used the blade to cut, scrape, and pry. I have dropped this knife from a 20 foot height onto concrete. Only now after several months of pretty hard use has the blade developed a very slight amount of blade play.

I tied a lanyard to the knife and let that hang out of my pocket a few inches. This makes it easy to pull the knife out of my pocket even wearing gloves.

It's a good, sturdy knife, I like mine a lot.

I have owned and fixed plenty..
The clip sucks from the factory.. But you can drop them lower.. Otherwise the knife does not want to come out of the pocket..
Of the 3 that I worked on.. they all had blade play and were almost new.. Including the two times that I sent my Mudd in.. It was fixed.. But came back within days..
However the lock is super reliable.. just not the best if you dont like blade play..
The handle is sort of comfy..
Also.. Many of the sealed pivots allowed in debri and liquid any way.. Including mine..
For the money it is a cool knife.

The only problems I have with mine are the closed retention is a little light, the blade tip is pretty close to the edge of the handle when closed, and it can be a pain to pull out of your pocket. I don't know how secure it is but I've taken to clipping the knife to the outside of my pocket. If I were to use it on a jobsite I'd probably carry it in a vest pouch rather than my jeans pocket.

The upside is I love the blade shape, and just the fact that it's all sealed means I can use this knife in places I wouldn't dream of taking my other nice knives.
I love the very rough handle texture and the thumb studs are the best I've ever used. The lock is easy to use and very sturdy.
Despite the few problems it is good enough to get me to use it more often than not. The feeling of having that brick of a knife in your hand is pretty sweet.

Once I get finished with all of these darn finals, I will have a review of mine up when I took it on a trip to Honduras.

Bottom line--It is very quickly becoming one of my favorite knives. I have had no problem with my pivot seal, and the G-10 has worn down do being pocketable now. Kershaw does a supreme job with the 154CM, and the 7-series aluminum (toughest) seems to be type III anodized. Whatever scratches my handle rubs off with a finger.

Excellent knife and it does use the same locking system as the Ram, only difference being that it is more robust on the MUDD. As far as bladeplay is concerned, mine had a slight amount that a 1/4 turn of the pivot took care of and it is now rock solid tight. The lock is harder to overcome than a regular detent and I think that the pivot comes looser than what you would see on a standard liner/frame lock, and so the blade may have slight play, and as I said above is easily removed by tightening the pivot disc.
