I am thinking about picking up a zero tolerance mudd folder and will probably pull the trigger on one soon. I was checking out a couple of the websites that I usually buy from and noticed a difference on the blade grind. One picture looks like it is basically a full flat grind while the other looks like an obvious hollow grind. I am kind of partial to full flat but a hollow grind probably wont stop me from buying the knife.

Can anyone here verify the blade grind of the latest version of this knife?

Thanks in advance.

Steve

It's still a shallow, hollow grind with a swedge AFAIK.

In essence, the blade really looks a lot like a beefed-up R.A.M. blade. 2/3 is straight, then a moderate curve upwards to the point.

I just got one about a week ago from Knifeworks.com. It is basically a full flat grind. It's actually got a SLIGHT saber ground type blade, but more or less flat grind. There is about a 3/16" tall tapering down to nothing at a 1.5" or so length chunk at the top of the back of the blade. I guess it could be a hollow grind b/c there is about 1/64" more thickness at the back of the blade, but it's essentially flat grind.

Hope this all makes sense. You can't go wrong with this knife. My only complaint is the black blade coating. With 154CM, it doesn't really need it, but I'm just being picky.

Mine has a perfectly flat grind when held to a straight-edge. Slight distal taper near the tip.

I'm sure someone will drop by sometime and post a photo of the Krein-reground MUDD. Full flat grind to a THIN edge.

It's a great knife, by the way.

Thanks for the info guys. The pic at new graham looks flat while the pic at knifecenter looks like a straight up hollow grind. Thought they might have changed it

Ok, I see what you mean now. The pic on NG is accurate far as I can tell, except on mine that I just got from Knifeworks, there is no longer a knob on the back end (whatever that was for?). The pic on Knifecenter looks funny...I could be wrong, but the handle looks real while the blade looks computer-generated in some way....perhaps a prototype drawing of some sort? I say this because the swedge is no where near that dramatic, and it's definitely not ground as shown. The light/glare around the blade are impossible to obtain on the actual knife. It is not ground anywhere near that deep as the pic would imply.

After checking, the pic on the Knifeworks site is the same as the one on the Knifecenter site, so I'm pretty sure you won't end up with what you're seeing there. NG has the best, most accurate pic aside from the knob on the end.

I contacted ZT knives to ask them the question and the lady on the phone told me that the pictures on the ZT website are the knives that are being sold. She said many dealers have pictures of the prototype which is not what is being sold. The pic on their website is the same pic that is on knifecenter, the one with the more extreme grinds. I just ordered one from New Graham today, which they told me was dated Jan 2009. This should be the latest version of the knife according the the rep at ZT knives. So I will find out soon enough. Either way I believe I will be very happy with this knife.

You're right, the knifecenter and ZT website pics are the same. I think this is a case of the customer service lady being wrong or misinformed. I just can't imagine having a different version of the blade out there than what I received (the pic on New Graham), and the KC and ZT website pics still clearly look like renderings to me.

I have a hunch you'll be happy...let us know!

The M.U.D.D.'s are flat ground, always have been. The image on our site is of an early rendering.

Sorry for the confusion.
