ZT 0550 blade length tip to scale?

I'm trying to find out the exact, actual length of the blade on the ZT 0550 from tip to scale -- the center of the scale or the little "horn" at the blade stop, whichever is further from the tip.

I know it's listed as a 3.5" blade, but I've watched videos and looked at comparison shots that suggest it might be slightly longer than 3.5" when measured this way.

If anyone has an 0550 and a ruler handy, I'd be much obliged. :)

Thank you! :)

I'm fascinated that there's a generational difference -- that never even crossed my mind. Looks like 3.5" is a safe bet, except for that second shot where it's maybe 1/32" over.

Out of curiosity, did the center of the scale or the little horn turn out to be further from the tip?

Can't really measure from the "horn" - the thumbstud is in the way; and it is away from the center of the blade...so it would be further from the tip (the hypotenuse of the triange, so to speak)

I'm with you -- sorry about that, I didn't explain well. Now with terrible MS Paint! ;)

Looking at the red lines, the first vertical line is at the tip, the horizontal line is perpendicular to both vertical lines, and the second vertical line is at the "top" of the scale. On my XM-18, the "horn" is a miniscule fraction of an inch (maybe 1/32", if that) closer to the tip than the center of the rounded portion of the scale. (On, say, a ZT 0562 the horn is significantly further forward than the center of the scale.)

To my eye, in photos, the horn and center of the scale on the 0550 look about like my XM-18: basically the same distance from the tip. (I'm not positive, though.) So my imaginary trio of lines in the photo above, when applied to the 0550, sound like they'd look about the same as in my photo: 3.5" right on the button from center of scale to the vertical line representing how far out the tip goes.

Or put another way, the most conservative reasonable measurement of "how long is this blade?" :)

I got exactly 3.5 from the tip to the handle, but the cutting edge is closer to 3.25

Btw...hhmoore, that is a nice 0550blk, they’re a little outta my price range rn, but I hope to get one someday, beautiful knife.

Can everybody send me their 0550’s so I can measure them as a second opinion. I’ll send them right back. ;)
