ive be wanting a 0550 for sometime but im worried ill like it since its not a flipper or speedsafe. I love my a knife that i can get open fast and smooth, so does the 0550 fit that??? im not sure since ive never held one before so thats why im asking for ur info please

If you have the right technique, it's smooth as can be...more so than any other knife some say. Do a search for it, it's discussed at length. It's my edc and I often think about buying more of the same because it's just that good; ask Chester.

Also keep in mind the new 0566, speedsafe flipper.

I have a gen 1 and love it. I had some user error issues at first, but all is well now. I can open mine just as fast as a speedsafe if not faster. No detent issues or any other of the issues you have surely read about here. I actually like it better than my 350s. The customizing you can do these days for it is absolutely amazing as well. You can truly make it yours for a little bit of cash. You will not be disappointed with it.

I've owned a few 550s and I gotta say they are smooth knives, I opened mine with a thumb flick every time I needed it. I like the 550 a lot better than the 560, They really are great knives, hit up Kershawguy here on the forums for a great price, and if you want a blem at an even lower price then he's your man for that as well, I've owned a lot of ZT's and the 550 is a great little knife, IMO opinion your not losing anything, by it not being AO or a flipper like I said the thumb studs allow for a fast deployment when you need the knife.

Sooooo smooth to open and good lock up. I have the 0550 and the 0551. It was fun to modify the scale with orange G 10.

Some of them are quite smooth and others have a very strong detent. I have 4 0550/0551 3 out of the 4 are crisp but smooth. The other one, an early 0551, is 2 handed knife. And no it can't be opened left handed either, with one hand.

At some point I will remove the lockbar stabilizer and try to bend out the lockbar a little.

Get yourself one you will love it. It is my most carried ZT by far.

I have a Gen 2 that is fantastic and easy to open left or right handed. As others have said, opening it is all about technique and once you have it you're good to go. I carry this knife at least 3 days a week and it's one of my favorite knives ever. I have a Preacher custom scale being made that I will hopefully have by the end of the week.
Have a 550BLK on the way, can't wait to get my mitts on it.

I have my 0550BLK in my pocket know. It deploys fast, after a little practice you should have no problems. I really like this knife.

I'll join the crowd of people saying that the 0550 is smooth and fast with technique. I know that some reports of stiff detents float around, but mine is a-okay. I bought it used and so it was nice and broken in. I've had practice with thumb stud opening on the Zing (those ramped studs on the USA models are very nice for practicing technique on a manual knife). I can almost always get it with my weak hand too, which hasn't had nearly as much practice.

I have a 550 and it was a two hand knife until I loosened the pivot screw just a little and learned not to apply any force to the lock bar while opening it. That said it can't (almost by definition) the smooth opening of the 560, one has bearings the other doesn't.

My gen 2 550, has become one of my favorite folders ever...and I'm a Spyderco guy. This thing has a smooth deployment, glad I read all of the advice about the thumb studs on here.

The 0550 is my favorite ZT folder!

I have two the 0550 and the 0550BLK. The former needed a little break in since the titanium lock was sticking (sharpie treatment plus a couple of hundred open/close cycles solved it in a couple of days). The latter was perfect from day one.

Opening the knife requires the thumb to be placed at the six o'clock of the stud and pushed straight up and then clockwise. Once you get the hang of it it's silky smooth.

On my 0550BLK I put a Rick Henderer Carbon Fiber scale and not only does it make it look stunning but it feels better in my hands with a much smoother texture and narrower.

That looks fantastic!

I need to get one, soon...

thanks for all the feedback....i just bought a 0200 yesterday but i have extra money to get 0550 or 0750???? im thinking 0550 now

I have a gen 1 and a gen 2. My 1 has a stronger detent, so instead of using the thumb stud, I grip it with thumb and fingers and lift the blade and snap it open. Smooth and fast. Fantastic knives and I have a bunch! These see a lot of pocket time.
