Hi folks, new here. I just received my second ZT today, a 0550. I'm a bit new to frame locks and my question pertains to the lock-up percentage. My knife locks up nicely with no blade play, but it seems a bit later than it should be. Please take a look at the pic and let me know what you think. Is this anything to be concerned about, or does it look normal? Also, that area at the end of the lock bar that looks like lube or dirt is actually some rough machining, though it seems to be purely cosmetic. Thanks

Welcome to the forums.

Your ZT locks up a little bit later than mine. In my opinion, it is still within the normal lockup range. The discoloration/machining at the end of the lockbar looks like traces from the lasercut. Ive seen it on 2 other 550's so far, including mine. It dosent look good, but its purely cosmetic.

Thanks. Do you think it will shorten the service life of the knife at all? I guess I'm wondering how long it will take for the lock to move over, or if it even will at all.

Unless you really slam it open with a wrist flick(not recommended for most linerlock/framelock knives), it shouldn't move much from there. Well-made liner/frame locks typically last for years if not a lifetime. The trick is the amount of surface area that contacts the blade tang. Because the 0550 is significantly thicker than most framelocks on the market, it's really doubtful that the lock would contact the other side in your lifetime. An opposite version would be the Spyderco Military, where the liner is significantly thinner, but it's also "wider". Even if it does reach the other side, I'm sure Kershaw would adjust your lock for free if you send it in. Either way you can't lose:thumbup:.

That knife will probably provide a relative lifetime of wear as is - Enjoy ;)

Yep, looks good to me! As long as there is no play, I'd be very happy with that. Congrats on your 0550!

Thanks guys, I feel a little better now. I was thinking about exchanging it for another, but maybe it isn't neccesary after all.

Welcome to BladeForums. Treat your knife kindly, in other words don't flick it like you are throwing a fast ball. ZT has a terrific warranty, if you are concerned you could contact them and email a picture. Never hurts to ask.
