I've been looking at some aftermarket scales for my ZT 0550. But I'm just a little hesitant to install a new G10 scale because I don't wanna screw the knife up. By taking off the stock G10 scale and putting on a new scale will I mess up the blade centering or the detent or anything ?

I'm just just looking to hear from some guys that have experience with this since it's new to me.

I put a new scale on mine. Blade is still centered, detent is fine also.

Nope, I have one with desert camo kyronite on my 0550 and its just fine. Check out Matt with Bella blades if you want a good quality scale and he's a really great dude.

I've had a couple of different scales on my 0550, and had no trouble after changing them.

Awesome. Thanks guys. So Matt at Bella Blades ? I will check that out. I'm having a hard time finding aftermarket scales for the 0550 so far.

I think it might depend on the scale quality? I had a scale for my 550 I bought from a relatively well known scale maker who is no longer making scales and the holes didn't line up quite right which seemed to make it impossible to get good centering. That was my one and only experience with aftermarket scales so judging from the other posts here I'd say that was more exception than rule.

I've always heard great things about matt with BellaBlades and discussed getting a scale made by him. Good pricing and communication, but I decided I just like the factory look.

Typically no problems are encountered. as stated above though if the holes are off it can skew it a bit. Most makers will fix the problem for you if it is encountered and if you decide to do it yourself it is pretty easy to center back up.

I didn't have any trouble with my 550 either, picked up a scale from monkeys edge. You should keep an eye on the exchange too scales come up for sale on there fairly often as well. Bladehq has scales fairly often too.

Rival makes some nice ones, as does gatorscales. There are also Hinderer scales, but they are sold out everywhere. All three can be seen below.

Same. I really want a jade xm pattern hinderer scale but I can't find them new or used anywhere. When Rivals books open up I'm gonna get one done from him. I like his style
