I ordered G-10 material last week and made another scale for this knife. While going through my jewelry box I came across my Discharge Lapel Pin from the USMC. Since it has been sitting there for about 45 years I decided to get it back in view. Today I inlayed it in the new orange scale. Hope you like it.
Thanks,
Ron

Absolutely excellent work.

What did you use to cut the g10? It's lovely work.

First, thank you all for the compliments. I enjoy doing this type of work to knives.

I find G-10 very easy to work with. A good face mask should be worn along with any other safety equipment to protect your eyes.
Traced the scale contour on a piece of G-10 and cut it out on a band saw. Before cutting it out I drilled holes for the grip area on the bottom rear of the scale. If you don't have a band saw the shape can be done with a coping saw. To finish the outline I used my kalamazoo 1 x 42 belt grinder. I transferred the holes and made flat bottom drills out of regular HS drills for the counter bored holes in the scale.
The USMC pin was done with a 9/16 drill bit, also made into a flat bottom drill. The hole was made approx. .072 deep in the 1/8" G-10 on my drill press. Hand sand the G-10 with coarse paper so the G-10 has some grip. Finer paper can be used on the edges.
I was pleased with the final result.
Thanks,
Ron

Excellent work there rpttrsn! Great way to show your pin and your skills at once. One thing about it, as my Grandfather would say: "you will be the first one in the neighborhood to have one like that." Thanks for you service by the way. It was 45 years ago that I got out of the Navy. The world has changed a lot since then.

Blessings,

Omar

Thank you also. The world has certainly changed. And I would like to thank the US Navy for transportation to the battles. LOL

Know all about the transportation, as I spent 4 years on an LST, Carrying about 250 troops and all their vehicles etc, on a typical deployment.

Blessings,

Omar

I'm sitting with my Dad in the V.A. Hospital right now, he's served in the Marine's and saw combat in Viet Nam. I showed him the pic of your knife and it brought him a smile.

The knife looks great and thank you for your service.

Very very nice, I like how you just cut drill bits to make end mills! Great cheap way to counter bore :D
