Hey guys,

Brand new to knives here, got my ZT 0550 ( first knife ever ) about 2 weeks ago, have been using it for everyday things like cutting boxes, mail, etc. I just got a brand new Yojimbo 2 from a BladeForum member, and after cutting some paper it seems sharper than my ZT. Did the same cuts to both knives and the Yojimbo 2 slices like crazy. Does my ZT need sharping, or is the Yojimbo 2 blade style just sharper?

Thanks.

The edge angles are probably much different. The ZT is a big thick tough blade and the edge is set up for that while the Yojimbo 2 is primarily a self defense knife so the edge is set up to slice very well.

Hollow grind VS a saber grind. There's really no comparison to be honest. Though on the other hand, Spyderco knives DO seem to be quite a bit sharper and at a lower angle too(20 degrees or less per side compared to 25-30 deg per side for ZT knives).

The Yojimbo 2 would be better for pure cutting/slicing while the ZT line is meant to be for hard use. Again, two different knives for two different purposes.

I see, this all makes a lot of sense. Thanks for the input and info guys!

Yeah, try using the Yojimbo for hard work and watch the tip go bye bye. Slicey though...make a good carry pair IMO.
