zt 0550 with some interesting defect

ZT needs to take a look at their quality control, because the number of reported qc issues seem to be high. Thats the impression im getting from reading the threads on bf, etc.

Mine had that problem when I got it in. I called and shipped it to them and they fixed it up for me. Its still a great knife. I'm carrying it right now.

Sorry, but I had to laugh when that happened. I was NOT expecting that LOL.

That's really bad IMO, I'm not sure how that can even 'slip' by. Send it in and they'll take care of you. It shouldn't have been that way in the first place though.

Edit: I see on your video page you say that you are in Russia. Not sure what you should do in that case.

I think your impression is off, as the percentage of issues vs the number of actual products on the streets are very minimal. Try not to let the forums skew reality from perception.

I agree. I've had a few ZT's and none had issues.

There has been a whole wave of threads with issues. That combined with the fact that i received a 550 with issues is probably whats coloring my opinion.

But i fully agree, that the reported issues on the internet is probably nothing more than a fraction of total production numbers. It just sucks for the guy with the knife in his hand.

By the way, i always though that ZT studs were 2-piece studs (male/female). I was surprised to see, that they are a one-piece cylindrical design. Are they secured in place with any glue or are they just pressed in?

Bug? That's a feature there! Maybe a random feature.. Think of it as owning the first ZT with a Spyderhole! :) You just have to see it from the view point of a software developer!

This is a freak thing, and extremely uncommon. We'll get this taken care of.

IgnisUa, please feel free to contact our warranty department and send the knife in for repair. Here is a link to the information you need to send it in.

ZT/kershaw CS at it's best! I love how Jimmer and Thomas represent KAI on BF and other forums, can't beat it.

I bet that 99.9% of all ZT/kershaw knives are perfect, but some will slip by and those are the ones we hear about. This one however was .... quite funny! :p

To be fair? My thread about an issue and several others were not so much really issues as just stiff before break in blade detents. By simply leaving the blade open to a 90* angle overnight fixes most of the stiff opening issues. Mine I left open over 3 nights.

Mine is now fantastic. Mine was not a warranty issue at all. Just a stiff detent that needed some break in. Buy a Lamborghini and see if it doesn't need break in to be as advertised. Same with any precision piece of equipment.

Most of the ZT QC threads I have seen are not really QC issues at all. Should my knife have been pre broke in before I got it?

The thumb stud issue is a freak issue. A one off I bet. Anyone who wouldn't feel comfortable with a 550/551 in battle should sell it and get a strider.

I am plenty comfy with mine!

I had the same problem with a 0301 about 2 years ago. ZT took care of it, just the 6 week turnaround time seemed like an eternity. I still buy and will continue buying Zero Tolerance, they back their products.
