I am a big fan of the offerings by KAI. Kershaw, Shun and Zero Tolerance. Last year i bought my first "higher end" knife which was a ZT 0350. I have owned Kershaws for years with great results and decided to check out a ZT. The 350 is awesome, i love it. A tiny bit small in the hand but that is ok. I have been looking at the 0550 for a while and decided to get one. I got it yesterday....and all i can say is WOW. The ergonomics are perfect, fit and finish is extremely nice, the blade was sharp.....etc. It deploys easily, lock up is super tight, no blade play in any direction, just an over all tight package. If anyone is on the fence concerning this knife, it is worth every penny. I couldn't be happier. Thanks to all the posts and information provided on this forum concerning the ZT 0550.

I just picked one up and it came today..Im real happy with it. I only hope it stays tight for longer than all my other frame locks.

The 0550 is hands down my favorite knife....very solid framelock, smooth action, hefty comfortable handle, thick blade w/great steel....and you can even personalize yours by adding some color with Hinderer replacement scales.

The 0550 is hands down, one of 2012's best bargains IMHO. And I even got one for $170 shipped when the dealer I bought from offered a 15% off everything in the store - I had to wait 6 months for the knife to get in stock but that was my second 0550 anyway!

My experience with the 0551 and the 0550 so far is it will not loosen up to the point where it's not good. They really are a good knife if the design works for you!

Just curious for everybody that has one, can you open it just using inertia? I have one also and mine won't pass that test, and it's extremely stiff and hard to open using only the thumbstud. I've tried everything that I know of, all to no avail.

I've been trying to decide on my next knife and I think it'll be the 550 and I really like the hinderer scales

Both of mine flick without trying hardly

I could open mine with a flick of the wrist, although I tightened up the pivot screw a little more after putting on my frag scale since I really don't like the blade being that loose for me. The pivot screw may be a little too tight on yours which would keep the blade from opening smoothly, unless you've tried that already....in which case, it should be sent in to be checked out.

My 0551 s lockbar loosened worse then any other framelock I own to the point im thinking about seeing if I can send it to kershaw to have the lock reset

My 0550's lockup hasn't moved since I got mine. And I flick it open a ton. I was thinking about getting the lockface carbidized. But ZT said that would void the warranty. They said if it developes blade play however. They will fix it.

I've been using my 0551 for several months now, and it is still as tight as new. Send it back if it is loose, and KAI will make it right.

My 0550 was a little stiff in the beginning but it has smoothed out very well. It now just flies out and has zero blade play in any direction. From a cutting perspective it is not a pure slicer but does cut better than my Hinderer XM18 that I owned.
