A while back someone posted a request for pics of the ZT 0551 next to the MPR. Someone else posted a request for the MPR next to the Hest Folder. Since I just recently got the ZT in I figured I would try to oblige both request. I searched and did not see that anyone had done this. I could be wrong! Regardless, here you go!

Hope this helps anyone who was on the fence about any of these knives. I personally think they are awesome and each one has seen time in my pocket.

I have handled the Hest Folder and ZT 551, and I can say I like the 551 a bunch better. The handle fits like a glove and it is incredibly smooth for being a tank. The Hest was not smooth but I didnt have it long enough to get past break in so maybe it would change. I like the extra blade length the zt 551 gives you.

Did you handle a production or LE Hest? I got both and have to say that my production is a lot smoother! I like all three about the same but believe it or not I think the 755 gets the biggest percentage of my pocket time!

Whitty, how do you carry your mpr? Is there any issues with the clip design that you've encountered? I've been in love with the design of it for quite a while but haven't been able to bring myself to get it yet and no one I know has one to look at.

I've got plans to pick up a production zt and already have a hest ( I love it :) )

I typically clip it to my pants. The clip does suck a little as I wish it was tip up carry, but it seems to hold to my pocket well. I love the way the MPR fits in my hand. I have big hands and for a sub 3 inch blade the handle fits my hands nicely!

I agree with you on the Hest, awesome knife!

If size does not bother you, you will love the ZT. It would probably be my EDC except for some of the environments I am in it is a little to big to bring out. For some reason the blade on it looks bigger than it is. I think you just get a lot of blade considering the handle size!

Good luck with your purchase!

I love the design of the 755 too. Saw it on a thread here a few weeks back for the first time, and just had to have it. It's the only knife I've seen so far that provoked that reaction. So, had one in my hand the next day :) My favourite knife, have been carrying it since.

Here is an option for the MPR,

This is an awesome option! Did you do this yourself or have someone do it for you? If you did it yourself, could you tell me how you did it or what you would charge to do it for me?

Thanks for the reply!

+1

Thats a kickass mod :D
Does it just go through g10 or titanium as well? Also, did you grind away a bit of the top of the blade to make a small spot that "grabs?"

It's really very easy to drill and tap, the screws go through both g10 and Ti.
The clip is a old spyderco I had , I just lined it up to where I wanted it to sit then marked the hole location. I drilled it for 2.5mm torx ,so it would match.
Then I "waved" it.
Hope this helps!

To the OP, AWESOME!!! I am the one who originally posted the pic request for the MPR and 551. It is very interesting to see them side-by-side, I thought the 551 would be a a lot bigger. I am in total agreement with you that the MPR feel like A LOT of knife for a 3' blade, I also have big hands and am really pleased with how the MPR fits me.
Thanks again for the pics.

Thanks for the comparison shots. I've been debating getting a 551 or HEST/F as I want a hard use folder. In the mean time I'm EDCing a ZT0350.

Sorry I didn't mean to hijack your thread

No worries man. I for one didn't see it as a hijack per say. It was related to the topic IMO. I never considered that knife before, especially if it comes as tip-down so your tip-up mod makes this an option for me now. That means more $$ out of my wallet. Wait a minute. Why the hell did you hijack this thread!!!!

LOL kidding bro. :-)

Sorry I didn't mean to hijack your thread

You did not hijack this thead! You answered a question I (as the OP) asked! I personally very much appreciatte your response. As much as I want to do this to my knife, I am afraid I will have to send it off to a pro to do. Not worried about voiding the warranty as I have taken it apart a couple of times! Just know I will screw it up if I do it myself!

Thanks again for posting and don't worry about hijacking, your posts were very informative and very on topic!
