so after reading hundreds of threads, I haven’t found answer. I am having a recurring issue which I’ve sent in to ZT 2 times to be fixed and it wasn’t. The steel liner on the G10 side of the handle strips the screw threads and doesn’t appear to be threaded to accept the screw to secure the pocket clip. Anyone else have this issue or have suggestions on how to tap threads into the metal?

I've owned a few myself never had this issue, and I have also never read about this issue before. However, it is also possible this is just a much less tested (thus less reported) issue because this issue would only arise from left handed carrying. Have you tried using blue loctite on the screws?

The liner on my 0560 WAS tapped for the screws he is speaking of.

OP...are you asking how to chase the threads so that the screws don't strip out? Just get a tap, and run it down through the existing threads. I would bet 100 bucks there is just a burr on the lead in on the threads, and the screws are so soft that burr twists the threads right off them.

When I took the knife apart, I tried to feed the screw into the hole and there were no threads. I sent it out twice with no fix. I’ve never tapped threads, but I’m not so confident it’d be fixed if I sent it back again, so I want to take matters into my own hands.

Find out what size screw you have or need, you might be able to go a little bigger. Then, find the tap that's for the screw size. With the knife apart, you can tap the holes. The knife will have to be apart, the tap will taper on the starting end and increase as it goes up. Make sure to run the tap the full length, also use a lube like WD-40 or oil. Stainless is brittle, so don't go too fast. It will be a little difficult at first, but one the tap starts to bite, it will go easily.

So I looked again. There are threads, however, the g10 scale does not line up perfectly, causing the screws to be stripped. And the screws are only long enough to bite on the first thread or 2. I’ll try fresh screws and a realignment of the scale.

Can you counter sink the G10 holes a little

OP i've had this happen while switching a knife from tip up to tip down. I took the Same size drill bit and applied sidewards pressure in the direction that I wanted the scale hole to line up with on the liner threaded holes. It's an easy fix but start slow and keep checking for alignment till it lines up then a dab of blue loctite and your good to go. BTW Welcome, and let us know how it turns out.

Thanks everyone. So, I carved out the holes of the g10 a bit more. And without counter sinking them or shaving down a pocket clip, the screws provided are too darn short. I mean, the simple answer is longer screws, but where to get those is the question. And why is this something I should have to do anyways??!?

Called zt again. They think it’s an issue with the scale being too thick because the stock screws don’t go deep enough. I’m thinking of just getting a custom scale. Any recommendations?
