ZT 0562 Non-flipper Yes or No?

Yes, yes, it's intended as a flipper but as I'm looking at mine I notice about 1/8" of g-10 overlapping the steel liner at the index finger groove. If this were taken down to flush with the liner it would provide adequate space to effectively use the blade stop as a thumbstud. Of course the finger guard/flipper would need to be taken down to make it a true non-flipper. Has anyone else seen or thought about this? Don't want to take that plunge yet but it looks feasible.

Nice knife! You should be good as long as it doesn't need the flipper to function... just check it when closed and make sure you don't need it before grinding away. I would have to look at it to be sure though.

I can open it with the blade stop, it's just not easy. It's too close to the scale, but that extra 1/8" is probably all I would need.

I don't see any issue with that at all. Can you post pics?

Believe it or not, the ZT 0562 was designed to be a flipper. The thumbstud-like objects are actually a stop pin (notice there is no stepping, but smooth). Not to say it cannot be done but, why remove a perfectly good finger guard and opening mechanism?

That area of missing or recessed liner is actually there to create enough space between the lockbar and the scale to allow your thumb to sink in between and disengage the lockbar. But if you wanted you could file away some handle scale and have better access to the thumb stud. Many knives have the recessed liner. My Bad Monkey has it, XM series have it, and many others too. My bad monkey has actual thumbstuds and is intended to be opened with the studs and still has the recessed liner.

I know what I'm talking about is outside it's intended design and function, but that's kind of what tinkering is all about. There is definite concern that if I follow through, the outcome will not meet expectations. I see XM-18 non-flippers and thought it may work on an 0562. Again, just a loose concept.
