How slick is the cf scales? I got to handle the G10 version and like the G10 version. but would rather have m390. If it is a bit slick, is there anything to rough it up a little without trading its look? media blast maybe?

Under normal use I think the CF wouldn't cause a problem maintaining a grip on the knife. Ive handled the 0562CF and used to own a smooth CF XM-18 and never found the traction lacking. Media blasting or roughing up CF will probably cause it to splinter and therefore ruining the scale.

The CF scales are very smooth, and fragile.

If you want the M390 steel but don't like the CF handle, maybe someone will trade you for G10 scales?

...

Curious what your experience has been that tells you the CF scales are fragile? Did you drop one and it cracked or something? I really am curious because I have a bunch of CF scales folders and have never broken one or been concerned about it. I now have two ZTs with CF scales - should I be worried ?

I have a chip in my CF handled ZT, and it has never seen outdoor use.

The only time I've ever chipped G10, or scratched micarta, is from a hard fall onto asphalt or concrete or a pile of rocks or something else where slight damage would be expected.

If you dislike cf, and scales are new. I have brand new g10 scales for a zt 0562.
I would entertain a scale swap.

When you press your thumb on the carbon fiber and slide it, it's smooth but not slick or slippery, it has a slight plastic tack to it. I imagine the surface is actually resin. With the fingerguard and the gimping on the thumb ramp I don't think you need to worry about grip.
