ZT 0562Ti Sporadic Stuck Flipper

Hi, I'm infrequent here but hope to be more active. I have owned several great ZT knives, including the perfectly great 0562CF. Just got a very pretty 0562Ti today and it looks perfect but when trying to flip it open it either fires or freezes 50-50. I've tried different finger positions, not squeezing the scales, rolling softly, etc. but it is very inconsistent and unlike any other kind of knife I've had including the CF version of the same design.

I read a negative review on Blade HQ about a 0562Ti not being able to be opened and thought it was a troll but now I'm starting to wonder if this is a more frequent problem, perhaps something to do with the Ti scale design? I'm sending it back tomorrow of course, I've exercised it 100x or so and don't think it's a break in problem, and the pivot feels loose - when it does fire it does so perfectly. But my fingertip is getting sore from having it seized!

Any comments are appreciated. If there is a magical easy fix I'm listening. Thanks

Sounds like an issue with squeezing the lockbar accidentally. Make sure you keep your fingers off of the lockbar when opening.

Other than the bearings and the blade there aren't any moving parts. There's really nothing other than the user to cause inconsistent deployment.

You’re right, my first thought too!

I would make the same comment! Except nope, absolutely not touching the lock bar. I’m flipping the 0562cf 100% using the exact same hold.

Something about the way you're deploying it is changing. Angle of force, finger placement, something. There's nothing about the knife dynamic enough to cause an inconsistent deployment like you're describing. If there was an issue with a bearing it would still deploy, but may not carry all the way out.

I suppose there's a really, really tiny chance that the detent ball is walking a bit in the lockbar and causing it to stick. You've won the worlds crappiest lottery if that's the case though.

Well... glad I’m not depending on a $280 knife when the Zombies come out.

Right now I’m thinking it’s the bearings but I’m not going to open it up.

OP - send it back for an exchange. Folding knives of ball bearings pivot are not as simple as some people think. No need to mess up with a new knife that costs nearly $300.

The bearings can't anchor the blade in the closed position, hurting your finger. It's either the detent or the act of deploying it.

:) If it was a cheap knife , I'd play around with it some ...it might work in .

But at $300 , return ASAP ! You just shouldn't have to hassle with it , IMO . :(

Save a lil bit more and just get a Chris Reeve Inkosi. Never worry about bearings no more. I own both, trust me you won't regret it.

You're a mind reader, I was just shopping and thinking the Inkosi looked like the best simple no-BS knife, one and done.

I am kinda a fan boy for ZT. And I have to say without a doubt send it back. Either the bearings are not rolling correctly, the pivot has some kind of issue or the dent ball is not quite right. It should flip just like your cf 0562.

And I second the inkosi. Looking to pick a lefty up myself. There is a few listed here. Only a few. Keep combing the boards. One will come up that you are happy to buy.

Thanks. Since the CF has been a good knife I think this Ti is heading back for a credit rather than an exchange. I do like the plain Ti looks though, not as gaudy as most ZTs. But a Reeves in plain Ti takes that minimalism to another level.

That's a smart decision. Sorry your ZT0562 TI . Didn't work out. On the other hand your CRK will make all that pain and stress go away.

And to add a bit more encouragement, I'm a ZT fan too. In fact, i currently own 2 0562TI due to some good deals, both are flawless. Here's some of my ZT collection. BUT, i'll take any of my 3 CRKs below any day of the week, with large Inkosi being my favorite of the bunch.

Thanks. I haven’t yet been tinkering or stripping down my knives but now I’m being quickly enlightened. Until today ball bearings were a marketing term and I didn’t realize quite how complex some of these knives get until I watched some strip down videos.

That said I knew enough to avoid assisted openers!

When you do start tear downs. I would suggest starting with a Bronze phosphorus or nylon bushing model. Both are usually easy to take down and put back together. Then I would goto Wally mart and pick up a inexpensive Kershaw that does have the assistant openope. And then step up to the ones with ball bearings. Just like a gun your knives need regular maintenance to operate correctly and last a life time. If you don't start maintaining them you will have to keep replacing them. Good news is all the CRK come with everything you need to maintain them and if for some odd reason you can't put it back together you can put all the parts into a zip lock and mail it to CRK. For a small fee they will put it back together for you. Really can't say enough about the high standards CRK sets. Hope you find one you like.

Cheers.
