I have a ZT0566 and a 0566BW. Obviously, I love this knife or I would not have 2 of them. I broke the torsion bars in both. No big deal, ZT will send replacement parts. I removed the broken bars and continued to use the knives. (this happened on separate occasions) My problem was that the torsion bars I received worked in one knife, but when I got the replacement bar for the BW knife it would not function.

I continued carrying and using the BW knife de-assisted for months until I decided to try again thinking that ZT had sent me the wrong bar. So, I ordered another replacement and had the same results, no luck. I decided to take the other knife apart and look at the bar in it to see what was different about it. What I found was that the liner and scale on the BW version was not milled out the same as on the stonewash. This was the first time I had both of them apart at the same time.

Has anyone else experienced this? The BW knife functioned perfectly when I purchased it, so it must have had a different torsion bar in it originally, which I promptly threw in the trash when it broke. But, all of the bars ZT has sent to me will not function in this knife.

Yep there are two different size torsion bars and you need the longer version for the black wash. At some point they changed the size in production, its been fairly well known especially for those who change the g10.

The original runs of the 0566 had a different torsion bar and a smaller assist cavity in the scale. After a while ZT started milling the cavity larger and including a different torsion bar. This may have been their response to all the people who complained that they couldn't open their knives properly.

Call ZT on Tuesday (not sure if they're open tomorrow?) and tell them about the mix-up. Then ask for another bar or two. They'll take care of you. Enjoy your blades, man!

I'm actually quite satisfied at the moment.

I swapped scales and liners between the two. The blackwash never flipped very well un-assisted, so it got the torsion bar. The other one turned out smooth as silk without the spring in it. I think I have got the best of both worlds. I just wish I had noticed the difference earlier in this process.

Didn't know that there were two sizes of torsion bars.Just got the BW version, liking it more unassisted.Openings are butter smooth.

I just bought this in the blackwash version with carbon fiber grips and am waiting for it to arrive  I had read and heard good things about it so I decided to purchase one while on the wait list for a paramilitary 2 (camo g10/black blade.) Years ago I had a stainless steel Kershaw Leek as my EDC but actually haven't been carrying anything as of late. I'm excited to see this relatively new offering that is a collaboration piece based on my previous experience with Kershaw knives and how pleased I was with mine. If anyone has any other tips/advice than what has already been offered here please feel free to comment or PM me. Thanks!

that's curious. I've got both too (the standard version de-assisted). now I'm going to open the BW and see how's like

EDIT: wow, I can't unscrew the scale  I'm sure the screws are full of glue... the standard version was easy to open apart.
if I keep on trying, I would strip the screws for sure...
