Just got my first knife.
First impression of it....I love it.
Only one problem..... In Canada assisted knifes are very controversial ( is the flipper a button?)....
Personally I don't think so! But I don't think I would want to debate this with a ln officer or a judge.
So I have a question for someone out there that has a ZT 0566?
Have you removed ur torsion bar? And do u like it like so?

My ZT 0566 is my favorite knife. I tried it deassisted but I could never get it right. However, I've found that my pivot screw needs to be really tight in order to have zero blade play, which I think was my main issue.

That was just my experience, though. I know a lot of people have deassisted theirs with great results.

Also, for what it's worth, I'm pretty sure that flippers are legal in a lot of places because you're using a part of the blade to open it, rather than pushing a button. That's my understanding, anyway.

Hopefully some people with good results can give you some tips for some great flipping action!

Welcome to BFC Stefan. I moved your thread to General discussion. The Tech Support and General question forum is more about questions on the site rather than knives.

In time I hope you enjoy this place at least as much as I do. Fantastic knife, but I am a full proponent for not breaking any laws when carrying a knife. I would check with someone who knows before making modifications. Removing that torsion bar could have effects that might not be too great. If the knife uses the slight pressure from it to stay closed it may end up swinging freely.

I de-assisted my ZT0566, it functions just fine and I actually liked it more de-assisted due to being able to control the opening with just one hand, unlike when the torsion bar launches it out regardless of how soft you depress the flipper. It's also easier to close one-handed due to not having to fight the torsion bar. I'd recommend at least trying it once. you can always put the torsion bar back in if you don't like it de-assisted.

It's perfectly legal, I have a friend who's in the rcmp, the law clearly states that for it to be illegal it has to be openable without touching the blade. Thumb studs or anything like them are part of the blade.

Thanks you guys.
Umm Jstainton18...
I personally think that the flipper is not a button, but I think the interpretation of the law might be different to an other (I rather not argue with a judge in court because changes are I will loose).
I previously ordered this knife from the US and CBSA held the knife due to it having a torsion bar.... Nothing to do with the flipper just the torsion bar! So I bought it again only this time a from a Canadian knife shop.
Lol this knife ended up costing me 300$ almost 😐. But it's OK because I love it.
Now to sleep better at night I removed the torsion bar and the knife is just fine thank god!!!! I am glad to say that it's still centered and work wonderfully.
Now I am looking to PIMP it out!
Anyone know anything about that...I would like some brass on it ☺

Have you looked in the Knife Laws forum here for information specific to Canada? It that's not enough, maybe there's a Canadian-centric web page dealing with Canadian knife laws. I'm sure you're not the only Canadian interested in knives.
