I got a ZT 0566BW today and really like the knife. I like the weight, size and feel. But why did ZT not Blackwash the liner under the scale? Also...is there an insert on the lockbar....I see what looks like a thinner contact point when the knife is locked open similar to my 0550 3rd Gen. But it does not have the hex head.

Overall a really great knife!

hey! your not allowed to start a thread about a new knife you bought without posting photos of it!! :D

Congrats on getting the 0566BW. I have a regular 0566 and like it a lot. The Blackwash finish has looked great on the other knives I've seen it on, so I'd imagine it looks just as much so on the 0566.

My guess is ZT didn't do the coating/blackwash on the liner under the G10 due to cost. As it is covered by the G10 scale anyway, it probably wasn't worth the added cost to coat (DLC isn't free) and then stonewash it since it isn't one of the outwardly visible surfaces anyway.

As for the lockbar insert, that is done on titanium lockbars that can sometimes stick against the steel blade tang. As the locking scale on the 0566 is already steel, there's really not a need for the lockbar insert.

I still think they should of blackwashed the liner. It looks cheap....un ZT.

As for the lockbar, what is the pin hole for at the lock bar face? The first gen 0550 did not have it, then second gen did and then third added the insert.

Great knife! I miss mine.

No insert, as it's already steel on steel. I'm not sure what you mean about the lockface, though. Are you talking about where the detent ball is?

What serial # did you get?

Pretty sure he's talking about the detent also.

I kind of like the contrast of the non-blackwashed liner. After getting used to the tightness of the detent, I'm really liking how secure the blade feels when closed.

Fits in a pocket a hundred times better. The slimmer profile closed along with the deep carry clip just helps it disappear in the pocket. Still just as tough and the Elmax holds a better tougher edge than s30v. So absolutely get one its a definite upgrade.

Honestly, I've owned two ZT 0566s and I currently own a 0350SWCF, and you cannot compare the two. They're completely different monsters. You really should just own both. I would still have my 0566 if it wasn't for my 0562CF. I traded my 0566 (plus some other stuff) for a Benchmade Contego in M390 and I'm loving that puppy, it definitely goes well with my 0562CF. So if you really are deciding on 0566 or 0350, my answer is both. Sorry? :-)

I own the 0566 and have had the 0350, for edc no question I like the 0566 better, it is less noticeable to carry but still solid and a better slicer.

The 0350 is much wider/ beefier and I feel like I have an easier time cutting cardboard due to the recurve and G10 on both sides.

Both are great knives- try to handle both and pick- or just get both!

As far as the pocket clip- I actually do not like the deep carry on the 0566- I have an easier time drawing the 0350. If only I can get a diff clip the 0566 would tick all of the boxes as my edc blade.
