I recently went back to work after about 3 weeks off. My knife was on my desk all that time. I went to work the other night and it opened funny. I looked and saw that it has rust spots. How do I remove theses?

Can you post a picture?

I've had good luck using Mother's mag and aluminum polish that you can get at any auto parts store. There are many other types of metal polish but this is what I've used and it's easy to find locally.

I put a little on a paper towel and go over the spots and then the whole blade. It's very mild and won't change the blade finish unless you really use it a lot. Going over the whole blade should help make it less prone to rust in the future though you can just clean up the spots and not the whole blade.

I wipe it off as well as I can but end up using soap and hot water to get the paste completely off.

Thanks for responding.

Can't capture the pic with the cell phone but it looks like freckles.

It should polish out fine and you can hit it with some mineral oil or a product like Ballistol. Which is basically mineral oil with a few extras in. Non toxic so its safe to use on your knives that may cut a sandwich. I use it on my knives and firearms, great stuff. But regular old mineral oil will work just fine too.

I hit it with the Flitz..good as new almost. I know it says non-abrasive but even a few fine scratches disappeared. All rust gone
