ZT 0770CF, carbon fiber grip compared to 0550 0566

I'm not usually a carbon fiber guy but for some reason the 0770CF caught my eye. Subjective question, I know. But how does grip compare between the 0770 and the 0550/0566? Seems like sometimes, like when it's cold or wet, the carbon fiber may be preferable to the steel/titanium frame. Any other thoughts to share?

I say I'm not a carbon fiber guy but just realized the first nice knife I got was a benchmade elishewitz 690 with the rosewood and carbon fiber scales. Still think about that knife as the one that got away. Things might've been easier if I just kept that knife, instead of getting the knife bug and horse trading thorugh a variety :p

The 0770CF handles certainly aren't as grippy as the textured G10 on the 0550 and 0566, but they do provide pretty decent traction, even with sweaty hands. The surface texture on the CF does provide a bit more friction than stonewashed steel (0566) or bead-blasted titanium (0550). This is just based on feel though, not any precise scientific measurements.

You've got to be a fan of carbon fiber to like it. It makes the knife much lighter in hand and does take a different feel. You won't really know until you have one in hand to see if carbon fiber is for you.

If you need a knife with some grip/traction, I would get g10....the carbon fibre is really cool, but it's a show thing...love my 770cf, but it's pretty slick

I was thinking maybe it evens out, G10 is better than CF but the CF is better than the stonewashed steel. Maybe I'll just stand pat with the 0566.

Honestly, I don't think you should have too many problems with any of those. I've owned 2 0550s, an 0551 and 2 0566s. I currently EDC a ZT 0770 aluminum.

Naturally, G10 offers better traction than CF but I think the ergos on the 0770CF will do a fine job of locking your hand into place, especially with that flipper/finger guard and index finger choil. I haven't had any problems using my 0770, and I'll admit it's rather smooth to the touch.

I'll admit if this was summer I probably wouldn't be thinking so much about the steel side of my 0566. It can be kind of uncomfortable on a chilly day #HTFU

just my experience owning both 566 and 770cf .... the 770cf is vastly different enough to own both and choose to carry one over the other in a given day. For me the 566 is more of a jeans outdoors knife and 770CF is more a khakis indoors knife. Ergos are great on both, but the lighter weight and thinner profile in the lighter pants material is preferred. Also the clip is smaller. The drop point of the 566 to me is better suited for heavier duty tasks. The thinner/reverse tanto blade is more suited for office style tasks.

I bought a 770cf by accident on eBay.
Very nice "little" knife. Had the blade been more than 3.5" I would consider keeping it. Instead I put it up for sale for what I paid for it..
It will make someone a great knife! The comment about it being a slacks knife are correct IMHO.
