I've looked high and low to find this information but I can't seem to find it, even the KAI archives but the search is broken. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what material the large pivot is made out of on the ZT 0770CF so I can figure out if it can be anodized or not.

Pretty sure the pivot is just steel, man.

Have you tried taking a magnet to it? That should answer your q right quick.

I called KAI and asked if they would make a pivot out of titanium or aluminum just for me but they said no :(. It's steel, no idea which

More than likely it's just the 410 stainless that they use for other scales and bits of hardware. I'm not positive.

Aluminum and titanium are both relatively SOFT metals, and would likely wear quickly. Be grateful that it's steel.

You don't suppose that might be from the matte finish applied to it, do you?

I'm pretty doubtful that KAI would cast a screw.
I have no idea.Just my observation under magnification looking at the unfnished area in particular the torx area looks porous.

Well I mean the outside of the screw, not the tube. Just wanted to see if I could add color to the screw heads

Also wondering if any of the knifekits pivots will fit in. Don't have a caliper to check sizes.

Titanium works perfectly fine as a pivot. Its used all the time in customs. And certain alloys can be heat treated to increase wear resistance. As for the pivot on the 0770 it is steel as stated. You can heat steel to bring out a bronze color or a blue but it may slightly reduce the wear resistance if it is a heat treated pivot. No chemical or electric anodization is possible.
