As per the thread title, I just noticed that my 0770CF has a rattle in the pivot area when the blade is open/locked and moved vertically. The lock-up solid and there's no blade play. Is this normal and I just haven't noticed it or is it not normal?

Thanks In Advance!
Lee

Probably the torsion bar you hear moving. I know some people use a little dab of vaseline in there to hold it in place and eliminate any rattle.

If you search "ZT rattle" you'll find threads about it.
Thank you for the reply! I watched a disassembly video to better understand.

Noob-esque error of not searching first (🔥 away!):

No worries. A little dab of litium grease or even vaseline should take care of the noise.

If you have the time to wait, I sent a rattling 0350 with some issues in for warranty service and it came back with the problems fixed and also rattle free.

Thanks, and good to know. Mine has seen very little use so I suspect the grease has dried -- no other issues at this time.

Oh, wait...or was that sarcasm? ;)

FWIW, KAI does not install the torsion bars in assisted Kershaws or ZTs with any "grease" on them.

Some torsion bars are just "loose" when installed (or loosen over time) and the fix is to simply apply a dab of "grease" to them to prevent them from rattling any more.

I've done this on a Kershaw Shallot and I also own a Kershaw Boa that needs the treatment. I haven't had to do it to a ZT yet but it doesn't surprise that it might be necessary on a 0770 (of which I own 2).

Another option is to remove said torsion bar. From what I've read on here, the 0770 functions well without the assist.

Only the aluminum version. For whatever reason, the CF is terrible without the bar. Very weak detent, and I at least could not get it center. I've heard both from quite a few people. I ended up selling mine. If ZT ever decides to make the CF version with KVT I'd be all over it.

Interesting...I would have sworn that at least one of the people with whom I'd communicated had a cf version (specifically the cfM4); but I'll happily stand corrected, nonetheless.

It's possible, I had one of the earlier Elmax models. Maybe something changed in the later years of manufacturing. However, I've always heard the CF version doesn't work well unassisted. Quite a few people here have been of the consensus that a KVT version would be amazing.

I think some are better than other with the torsion bar removed. I assume they were not “tuned” from the factory at all to run de-assisted, so it could just be dumb luck as to whether it works or not. I’ve tried it on a few, and for the most part I like to keep the assist in.
Without it, it’s just like any other knife on washers I suppose, not the same thing as bearings that’s for sure.

That and I remember a lot of people asking for a version of the 0566 w/bearings. That would be cool.
As far as the 0770, they have the Barenuckle now….but idk if I’m the only one with this problem,
But it seems like those cheaper sub-frame locks (NOT like the 0770) like to move over and wear in quite a bit. Anyone else notice this?
After a couple dozen flips my 20CV Barenuckle went from 30% to about 50% lockup. Had the same problem with a Natrix, but that one I needed pliers to unlock.
Maybe it’ll settle at 50%?

Anyone else have a Barenuckle and wants to chime in??? Thanks
