The detent on the 0777s that I've handled were all pretty strong and flipped nicely. I really like the way they flip but I probably wouldn't if I didn't know WHY they have that strong detent. It also helps if you have handled a large bladed knife with a floppy weak detent and feel why it is better. I do not own one though and I haven't handled any that have been shipped to customers. I disagree on the different feel. It feels a bit stronger than my later serial number 0560 and 0561s, but just like the early 0560 and Tilts I have.
If you look back at the "hard to flip" threads on the 0560 you'll see that this actually makes it flip better and great explanations of why. If you have a weak detent then you are having to push the blade all the way around. When you have a stronger detent, you build up pressure until the detent releases and the blade will fly open with ease. This is actually a better design but if you aren't used to a knife that is designed like this or are using the wrong technique, you may think there is a problem with the knife. I think if you watch you aren't putting any pressure on the lockbar and play around with the angle at which you are pushing, you'll find that there is a particular angle at which it works best and opens with an authoritative crack. This is much better than it opening slowly and potentially not locking up and requiring you use the thumbstud to push it the last bit until it locks up.
If you handle it for a while and still aren't happy with it... you won't have any trouble finding someone that would be. I'd really love to have one of these if I could find one for less than 7 bills.
